Video – Natal demoed with Katamari and Space Invaders at TGS
Microsoft’s demoing Natal with Katamari and Space Invaders at TGS this week. You can watch a video of the Katamari demo after the break.
Get write-ups from Kotaku and IGN.
Looks as though it works, although that’s a lovely bright white room going on there. Project director Kudo Tsunoda told Kotaku there that the setting’s irrelevant thanks to the camera’s infrared sensor, though, and that the system can be used in total darkness.
If you say so, Kudo. Natal’s expected at the end of next year.

Looks interesting. Makes me really want to try natal with one of those tower defense games.

xD
Again it does not look good to control at all.

I wish they’d stop showing us how they can bolt it on to games that don’t need it and don’t look any fun to play with it. They really need to get around to showing us what they can do with it that can’t be done with a pad if they want to sell it to the sceptical gamer.

Didn’t look too intuitive for that guy.

The lag is the killer. It will be great for casual and party games a la Wii, but anything else? No way, Pedro.

If you read the DigitalFoundry article on Natal, you’ll see that the lag is no different to a normal game… it’s just far easier to see when you have a person in front of you and a mirror image of them doing the same thing just slightly later.

Hmm, I’ve seen video where gamer and screen are in the same direct shot and the lag is huge and undeniable. In one of the Burnout demos it was probably 500ms or more.

Nah, it’s been calculated at somewhere between the Halo 3 and Killzone 2 controller lag. 133ms – 200ms.
Not to mention what pretty much all the hands on impressions have noted it (where it’s just not an issue). Like I said though, it’s just far more obvious than normal controller lag. Unless that particular vid you’re talking about was done on a Samsung screen without game mode on (Something like 3/4 second lag).

Has fail written all over it. That beign motion control in general.
Although seeing Kudo tryign to his a ball in Rocochet three times yesterday and it not beign accurate enoguh to hit it, really makes me happy it’s got a year of work yet.
