Microsoft’s issued a flat-out denial that it’s in the frame for an EA buy.

“We have no plans to acquire EA,” a spokesperson told Marketwatch last night.

“Unsubstantiated” rumors popped up regarding a sale yesterday, forcing up EA’s share price.

Whatever happened o “Microsoft doesn’t comment on rumour or speculation”??

Well of course they don’t. I still can’t believe everyone falls for the rumour. Every single time.

It would be cool if they did buy EA though…

Don’t ask me why, I just think it would.

Uh no. Xbox 360 is the reason why games get dumbed down. Look at FFXIII for example before when it was just for Ps3, when it used White Engine, it looked absolutely stunning. Then they changed the engine to Crystal Tools and then they announced it for 360 and now look at not as good as it was before….

Where would games like God Of War or Uncharted go if SOny were to be destroyed like Sega was?

Crazy possibilities from this one. Even though it was 99% unlikely the possibility was still there.

Microsoft could have ended the console war overnight, finished sony and nintendo, not even their direct competitor.
They’d own like 50% of the games development including their own internal studios.

Totally insane, even if microsoft wanted to chances are competition laws wouldn’t allow such a huge merger.

White Engine is Crystal Tools, Phoenix. They just renamed it.

@6 I know that Blerk but my point is they toned it down so it could be used for 360. Its not the same as it was before.. I’ll look for the comparisons.

I’m not convinced you can blame the 360 for the downgrade. Those early shots might not have even been rendered on the PS3. Square have always been very happy to show us stuff rendered on their server farms in the early stages of a project, and none of the footage I’ve seen of late has looked even nearly as bad as that super-blurry shot that your second link is using as ‘proof’.

You can take it for what it is but even so read the articles since the game for 360 is multidisc it will change the pacing of the Ps3 version let alone no Japanese VA because they want to keep it identical to the 360.

It seems more likely that the pacing would be altered than the graphics, but even that’s not a given – their argument about the PS2 versions being ‘more open’ for being on a single DVD is basically flawed for a start. FF7, 8 and 9 were all multi-disc on the PSOne and featured sprawling overworlds from the off, whereas FFX and X-2 on the PS2 were single-disc but didn’t actually have overworlds at all – in that respect they were a step back rather than forwards.

Have they actually said that the two versions must be absolutely identical, anyway? I see no reason for them not to include the Japanese audio on the PS3 version (other than the fact that they’ve never included Japanese audio on any other Final Fantasy to date).

If the PS3 is more powerful than the x360 and Square had to make some compromises and downgraded the graphics just to fit the x360 (as you suggest), what is stopping them render the game in full effect on the PS3 and leave the x360 trailing behind?

Do you actually believe Microsoft would refuse to grant its approval for release of a FF game just for the sake of a few differences in graphics?

Apparently the games producer said so in an interview to Gametrailers.

@11 It would take to much time to go and render the Ps3 They want the game to have a same release date.

Look I am not bashing Microsoft or Sony. This is afterall Square’s doing because they chose to do this and continously throw out exagerations. I think this is why people are looking more forward to Versus than XIII because it is exclusive (atleast til they say otherwise)

Seems a shame not to use the extra space if they have it. Although I’m guessing it’s not quite as simple as it sounds – you’d need separate versions of all the CGI movies and a completely different set of lipsynch data for a start.

The Japanese language ‘thing’ sounds more like an excuse than anything, just something to say rather than *why* they haven’t chosen to include it on the PS3 version.

I would’ve thought it would be their call, I know on Lost Odyssey I instantly switched on the Japanese voices the first chance I got, and they’d be plenty of other people who would too.

Umm Lost Odyssey is not a SE game. Dunno why you guys keep making comparisons to that game.

It could easily be an excuse but they are saying they want it to be identical to the 360. Thats their choice though. It Sucks either way.

It’s a multi-disk JRPG with multiple languages. That’s why I made that specific comparison.

You do realise that all the initial screenshots up until the game first gameplay footage were only target renders, right? They weren’t direct screenshots of the game in action.

And the newer shots do not look poor. People argue because a shoulder looks slightly more blocky, or there’s a simpler texture on the floor, but they often ignore that the lighting in the newer shots is a lot more detailed.

Since when does slightly lesser detail = a dumbed down game? The gameplay is still the same.

“Seems a shame not to use the extra space if they have it.”

Considering that the 360 version will likely come on 2 or 3 DVD discs, the Blu-ray is probably already practically full to capacity anyway. I’d imagine

Close enough, but not exactly. Modern video files that store separate audio tracks in their data. The reality is that subs are more accepted amongst the average consumer. I still think it would be more an issue of space though.

Can’t wait til Bluray gets to dual layer then DVD will have a problem catching up. Dual Layer Bluray = 50GB of space.

I’m sorry, did I forget to prostrate myself before your greatness? My apologies, do now post four hundred words on my rudeness. We all love reading about how knowledgable you are: How else will we learn?

Try actually reading my original post before you come across as a tool. I commented on nothing but the game.

Last time I checked, the point of the comments section was to comment on the story and what people were saying. I wasn’t aware it was a crime to actually know what I’m talking about and present those facts. I apologise if that offends your delicate sensibilities.
