Ubisoft to release preorder maps from Assassin’s Creed 2 eventually

Gamers who did not preorder Assassin’s Creed II from Gamestop need not worry about missing out on the two “exclusive” maps, because Ubisoft plans to release those to the public at a later date.
“Eventually everyone will have the entire game,” the game’s creative director Patrice Desilets told Kotaku. “I made sure of that.
“Because I’m Canadian, I don’t have the same shops as you do. So I wanted to make sure I could at least someday play everything in the game. Eventually there’s going to be, ‘okay, let’s unlock everything’.”
Palazzo Medici and Santa Maria Dei Frari are currently only available through preordering and Desilets did not when the content would be made available nor how much, if anything, it will cost.

What makes Gamestop so special? And why can’t they work out deals like this for retailers in all territories?

Good.
What makes Gamestop “special” is that they’re rich, desperate, and obnoxious. Their business model is a joke – rather than stock brand new product, they only carry preorders and then try to convince hapless would-be purchasers the game is scarcely available so you’ll pre-order everything from them next time. Most of their money is made from paying a few pennies on the dollar for used games and reselling them at near-new value.
People have stopped going to them for new games (because of the above and other problems too long to list here), so instead of addressing the problem like a competitive business in a free market, they’re trying to use their money and monopoly to buy sales, like so.
