Mizuguchi: Okami and MadWorld deserved more attention
Platinum’s Okami and MadWorld should have been better received, Qs Tetsuya Mizuguchi has told 1UP.
“It’s actually a coincidence that I mention two games by Clover/Platinum, but it’s a shame that unique games like this aren’t embraced by the public more,” said the Japanese dev stalwart.
Madworld’s wince-inducing sales were closely watched as the game was seen as something of a “core” test-bed for Wii, while Okami was hugely-loved, but not popular enough to spawn a Wii Sequel; a DS follow-on has since been announced.
There’s an interview through there.

I’ve been playing MadWorld recently, wouldnt really call it unique though. Reminds me of a good number of old beat’em all’s but in black and white and with gore.

Well, they should’ve released those games on the PS3 and/or 360 then! Instead of on a console that’s mainly used for gimmicky party games and fitness shenanigans by the majority of its audience.

The fact that Zelda can sell a gazillion and Okami basically did nothing is nothing short of tragedy.

Well Capcom probably didnt loose much on Okami seeing as its just a PS2 port, and MadWorld was meant to be the ultimate core game test so it cant be blamed either. It was only really after MadWorld that it became apparent more adult games didnt work on the system.
Though any future devs wanting to make games like that on Wii are just stupid.

I don’t know whether holding MadWorld up as an example is fair, because the game diden’t play very fun.
It got repetitive really fast.
There’s a wide audience that owns a Wii. Casuals and hardcore. But in order to sell to them, adding or removing gore is only a very small part of the equation.
Is the game good? How is it marketed? When is it released? What is the price point?
