To be fair, when I posted, the only scored that were up were # Eurogamer – 7/10
# IGN US – 6.8/10

It’s a shock because this is Gran Turismo, not because most sites’ scoring systems aren’t worth the pixels they’re printed on. GT is, or was, a critical phenomenon.

#18 hit the nail on the head. Expectations have been blown way out of proportion. Compare the game to Ridge Racer or some other PSP racer and GT looks like a diamond in the rough.

the fact people have been waiting nearly 5 years is probably affecting scores too. this would have been pretty remarkable back then as it is just an impressive effort

Yup. Anything averaging lower than an 80% or higher than a 95% should probably be avoided.

Yes, it’s a bit depressing when an average of 7.7/10 is considered a disaster.

Personally I thought a Metacritic average of 98 for GTAIV was a huge disaster. The review system truly is broken.

“Less-than-pretty scores”? Only 2 of those listed could be considered ‘low’ by some people, for the most part those are perfectly decent scores.

If you read the reviews, they’re actually fairly positive. The consistent complaint is the lack of a campaign mode; the calendar system they’ve implemented seems to be a love it or hate it kind of thing.

An average of those scores (excluding the “buy” because it’s a fucked up way of scoring) is 77.5%, which is a fairly respectable score.

It didn’t need a full career mode but it did need some sense of progression. The only progression in this is working your way through the re-badged license tests.

Most sites seem to have completley missed the point about what GT PSP was supposed to be about….i.e. pick up and play, not a full a career mode.

I think it’s pretty ridiculous for some people to have been expecting a full console GT equivalent on the PSP.
