First Scribblenauts reviews are fair to excellent

scribblenauts

The first few Scribblenauts reviews have gone live. It’s looking like it might not be quite the super-game E3 promised, but it’s rosy nonetheless.

But still. Essential DS purchase, surely. The 5th Cell puzzler’s out on October 9.

Most of the complaints seem to be over the controls, sadly. I hate moving characters with the stylus – give me good old-fashioned d-pad movement any day.

I played this at GamesCom for a few minutes and honestly couldn’t work out what was going on. But then, I was a bit mental and I was about to meet George Warner, who offered to demo it but my brain was about to explode so I refused. I still want to play it.

@Blerk

Indeed, the fact you can’t move the character or select letters with the D-pad is annoying, since the touch-screen on my launch-DS isn’t very good and often picks the wrong letter despite calibration. I just draw out letters using the handwriting thing, it’s faster, unless you need an N which is apparently always a ‘c’. Although that’s probably my rubbish handwriting.

It’s a fun game though.
