Report – PS3 Slim sells over 150K in Japan
According to early reports from Famitsu, the PS3 Slim has sold over a staggering 150k in Japan within the first three days of it’s launch from Friday.
The exact number is actually 152,252, which is still actually incredible considering only 88,000 were sold within the first two days of going on sale. The figures also mean that it’s the biggest sales count the PS3 has ever recieved in Japan.
Earlier today, Chart-Track confirmed to us that PS3 sales in the UK were up 1,000%. The fightback is on…
Thanks, Kotaku.

Im curious as to how well it will continue to sell Worldwide after this first week of sales. Its a promising start though.

Reading around the web the indications are that the slim is going to have an amazing launch.
But, as Joe notes, the big question is how much is 2 plus years of pent up demand for this price point and what will average weekly sales be when the fuss dies down?
I’d imagine though that this will ensure Tales on PS3 does very well in Japan. Unless MS are willing to fork out serious money I think the run of 360 JRPGs might be about to come to an end.
I note that 360 has seen a reasonable boost too due to price changes.
Game on, indeed.

Hardware sales have been low on all the under-the-telly consoles in Japan for ages now. Once the initial boom is over I can’t see the PS3 (or any other system) maintaining a level of sales much higher than they were before simply because there isn’t the software to support that level of sales. There are ‘spikes’ whenever an anticipated title hits, but there seem to be far fewer of them in Japan than there are in the West.

Agreed, Blerk, although if both FFXIII and GT5 ship in Japan this year as indicated, they should see the PS3 do well through to the beginning of 2010.

Now Sony needs to aim for $250 by next year. I’m sure the price will drop further next year. But for a first week, definitely a big plus. PS3 Slim will keep the ground to itself in Japan. Question is Europe and America?
