Steam Hardware Survey: August 2009

Valve has released its latest hardware survey results, and the findings pretty much give you an idea of what sort of gaming rigs are being used around the globe.
Looks like most people use DirectX 10 with the Nvidia Geforce 8800 graphics card, Windows XP, Realtek HD Audio output and Intel processors.
Sounds vaguely familiar on this end as well.
Kotaku has it broken down for you here, and the full results complete with charts are through Steam.

Some might be using the hack Shiro. Honestly, I cannot tell a major difference between 9 and 10 versus my PC and Laptop, respectively. Then again, I am 1/2 blind as well

Hacks are placebo effect based,Steph
it only worked on the original Crysis because simply Crytek switched off some options that were AVAILABLE in DX9.0 anyway, for its deal with nVidia
but yeh, maybe they mean in general
wait,still doesn’t sound right :/
and no you are not blind,DX10.0 for the most part wasn’t used enough on the dev end,and wasn’t seen enough on the gamer end
also the cheapo DX10.0 supporting chipsets used in Laptops
don’t even render DX9.0 well enough ,let alone DX10.0
its all PR crap tbh

I have no idea what chipset my laptop is using for D10 but my nVIDIA 9650M GT makes everything lovely enough for me. It could be DX.0001 for all I care atm

The figures for XP and DX10 are XP systems running a DX10 compatible GPU, not XP systems actually running DX10, and since loads of gamers are still gaming on more advanced hardware running XP all makes sense to me
