Meet the new Earthworm Jim, same as the old Earthworm Jim

ewj

Yesterday’s announcement that Gameloft had picked up the rights to give your Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii a case of the worms wasn’t exactly clear on what form said creepy-but-not-crawly would take. Would it be a new game, or would it be a port of a classic earthworm escapade? G4 asked Gameloft, and promptly received an answer.

“A Gameloft representative has confirmed to me it’s a remake of the 1994 original game released on Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, not a new game,” reads G4′s post.

So that’s that.

pspcomicsvc

Sony has released videos for both the Digital Reader and PSP minis.

We have both posted after the break courtesy of Joystiq.

For now, the Digital Reader is for comics only, but who knows what the future holds. Digital copies of Wuthering Heights, The Doppelganger or Atonement may not be just a pipe dream folks. We’ll have to wait and see.

Minis are expected to launch with the Go on October 1. Yay.

Watch on.

Persona 3 PSP details – gender choice, new in-game events

persona1

Details on Persona 3 PSP’s downsized upgrade are finally* starting to roll in, and the game’s looking like much more than a simple port.

Most notably, all that female main character jazz is choice-driven. At the game’s outset, you decide rather you want to be a soft-skinned, purty-lookin’ Japanese girl or a boy who, well, looks just about as a pretty as his female counterpart.

Depending on your main character’s gender, certain events within the game’s story will change. For instance, if you charge out the gates as a girl, a male attendant replaces Elizabeth in the shadowy Velvet Room.

Other changes include new difficulty levels, more effiecient methods of travel, and the ability to directly control your party members in battle.

The game’s launching day and date with the PSP Go in Japan. Odds are, it’ll reach our shores eventually, but for now, Atlus isn’t talking.

*It’s been, like, less than a day since it was announced. We’re very impatient when it comes to Persona, it would seem.

Thanks, 1UP.

Kotick: “People are happy with exisiting franchises”

bobbykotick2

Activision’s Bobby Kotick, has told The Economist that despite criticism that the company is too dependent on exploiting franchises, many gamers feel the opposite.

“A small segment of very vocal gamers say everything has to be new and different every year,” he told the site. “Actually, people are happy with existing franchises, provided you innovate within them.”

The trick, according to Kotick, is to strike a balance “between the familiarity of a trusted brand and ‘innovative and inspiring’ new features.”

Guitar Hero 5 is out in September.

New God of War III screens are family friendly

godofwar3_purple

Or at least, they’re as family friendly as God of War screens get. No blood, entrails, or cyclops-turned-no-clops in sight. Just Kratos and a big, mean monster man striking poses at each other.

There are also a couple shots of Kratos attempting to fly in a cave, which strikes us as counterproductive.

See them all over at Shacknews.

Wolfenstein multiplayer dev sees layoffs on launch day

wolfenstein101

Just as Endrant Studios finished pushing Wolfenstein out the door, the big bad wolf that is financial troubles came and blew the developer’s house down. Or part of it, anyway.

“We have recently completed a development cycle and have regrettably been forced to make adjustments to staff and headcounts,” a company rep told GamesIndustry.biz.

“Those affected are valued members of our team who have worked incredibly hard on our latest title. We hope that they land on their feet quickly.”

Wolfenstein was the (formerly) 17-person team’s first game. We join the rest of Endrant in hoping those who now find themselves unemployed don’t stay that way for long.
