Natal is about “winning” this generation, says Kim
Natal. It’s not a camera. It’s not a motion sensor. It’s not a knee-jerk reaction to Wii. According to Xbox super-chief Shane Kim, Natal is about bringing “hundreds of millions” of players to Xbox 360 – and winning this console generation.
“The generation isn’t over, and we’re not winning yet,” Kim told OXM.
“Our goal is to win, always has been. We want to have hundreds of millions of customers, whether that’s on 360 or on Live, and that’s our vision. That’s what Project Natal is about.
“Natal is not about responding to Nintendo and what they do with Wii, it goes well beyond what Nintendo and Sony are doing.
“This is about unlocking the potential and breaking down all the barriers that remain that prevent people who are intimidated or feel awkward with a controller in their hand – anything that prevents them from jumping in and having a great time with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.”
You go, Shane. Natal’s expected toward the end of next year.

Big fat lols with hair on!
Yes Shane, I’ve little doubt that had Nintendo not done anything with motion control, yourself and Sony would be just coincidentally unveiling motion based controllers next year.
Give Nintendo some credit, please.

“Hundreds of millions” I hope them to be sat while waiting for that. Hundreds of millions must be, at least, 200.000.000, so they really hope Natal to make their console sell 170.000.000 at least? If some company reachs that number is Nintendo. It will be harder than they think to put them out of the way.

When ever they present corporate spin, doesn’t anybody in the press go “Really? you expect us to believe that?”.
Sure, in this case it’s printed in OXM, so I wouldn’t expect that response. But in general, do they ever get called out on their spin doctoring?

Oh come on man, everything you said natal is not is exactly what it is, and everyone knows it.
As soon as Wii sales hit the roof the 360 team sat down and said ‘we gotta get us some of this’. While the Sony team said the exact same, but in Japanese.

Never in human history has there been an interactive experience without a tactile medium. Will Natal be the first? I’m sure that’s what MS are hoping for, but personally speaking I’m far more excited by Sony’s wand.
