As for the money issue, Michel Ancel declared that the low sales were due to a lack of marketing around the game. Everyone at Ubisoft thought at the time that it was going to sell well without proper promotion like the first Rayman did, and they have acknoledged the fact that they were wrong on that. Now, Beyound Good & Evil is much more hyped, so that sequel has a lot of potential. And Ubisoft have managed to sell very well a new IP recently.
