Report: Beyond Good and Evil 2 “on hold for now”

beyondgoodandevila

Looks like Beyond Good and Evil 2 is definitely on hold, according to a tweet from Gamersyde.

According to the site, confirmation of this came from Ubisoft which said that the game was “on hold for now.”

Last month, Ubisoft’s North America’s president Laurent Detoc, said that a team has been working on some BGAE “stuff” and despite the Ubidays video and screen leaks, the game’s not coming anytime soon as the series’ future is still up in the air.

We will send off a mail to Ubisoft to see if we can get a response.

No really surprise. It’s not a money maker, and with the recession and a number of frustrating game delays, Ubisoft need to save every penny they can make right now.

A pity though. Someday, hopefully.

Dbl damn it. Was really looking fwd to some more of that.

Think they’ve probably got the fear about how it would be received.

There’s been very little news since the Ubidays 2008 trailer. That got the biggest cheer of the event.

Last news was that in March, they were still in pre-production. Since that, Michael de Plater and people from the Ghost Recon team have been sent to work at Ubisoft Montpellier where Michel Ancel is based.

My guess is : They need Michel Ancel and/or his team on a new big project that they came up with recently. Probably a Tom Clancy thing to start a new series.

As for the money issue, Michel Ancel declared that the low sales were due to a lack of marketing around the game. Everyone at Ubisoft thought at the time that it was going to sell well without proper promotion like the first Rayman did, and they have acknoledged the fact that they were wrong on that.

Now, Beyound Good & Evil is much more hyped, so that sequel has a lot of potential. And Ubisoft have managed to sell very well a new IP recently.
