Rumour – Second PS3 Slim SKU being planned
It’s not even been 24 hours since SCEE’s conference ended where the PS3 Slim was announced, but already rumours are already circulating that Sony have a second 250Gb version of the console planned.
The console went through the FCC under a psydeum known as “Sand Dollar Enterprise Inc.” to make sure the SCEA report was kept a secret.
Very clever if we do say so ourselves.
When it was announced last night, only a 120Gb SKU was announced, retailing for £249/$299/€299.
Thanks Engadget and Roybott.

Zarckan; yes, yours. Tax differences, plus the usualy “fuck europe over a barrel” tax.

You have to factor in different tax %’s, cost importing and UK gouging because apparently everything costs more here just because.

It’s the price Europe has to pay for its socialist society.

i remember sony tring to bypass import tax on the grounds playstation was a computer, i wonder if they were successful. I’m pretty sure the only reason linux was provided as an installable option was to take advantage of the concession(on import duty) on computer hardware.

Had a moment of realising the blindingly obvious today. In Europe/Others the PS3 trails the 360 by a couple of million. In the US it trails by about 9m. Hence the US get the magic $299 price point and Europe/UK subsidise.
What they actually needed to do was get the games the US like out of the door a hell of a lot earlier. Stuff like a proper SOCOM and God of War 3 should have been out well over a year ago.
