Rumour – KMart confirm PS3 price cut and PS3 slim [Update]

Tuesday, 18th August 2009 09:36 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Update: Even better, KMart have the Slim on pre-sale for $299 and on sale from August 24th, next Monday. More here.

Original Story: Only 8 hours and 34 minutes left until that presser, innit?

American retail chain KMart has revealed what finally seems to be what we’ve already known for months: a PS3 price-cut and the PS3 Slim.

“The rumors are reality. New low price & a new exciting Playstation 3,” is what it says on the retailer’s website.

If it wasn’t official before, it is now – Sony are bad at keeping things a secret.

Thanks, Kotaku.

Bet we get photos of the slim before the conference starts.

I think that IS the slim!

Who said it had to be a different shape? Just reduce the base by a cm or two and there you have it…

As Kotuku points out, they couldn’t even get the word ‘PlayStation’ right…

I would LOVE for the PS3 slim to not actually exist… It’d just be funny if everything we have seen is 100% fake :)

I dont think thats the slim, based off the size of the pad it appears tobe exactly the same size as the original.

rrod360lol, that wouldn’t exactly be unprecedented. They aren’t a specialist videogame retailer, I doubt they’re too fussed about Sony’s grammatical guidelines.

Well then maybe it’s the same size… on the out-side…

    But slimmer…

    …on the in-side…

    Oh, never mind.

Its a shame the link on the site “Learn more” doesnt actually do what it says.

Seems like KMart have been quite shrewd with the wording. They haven’t made any reference to an actual slim console, just a “new exciting” one. That way if all Sony announce is the same machine but with a bigger hard drive they can’t be accused of false advertising.

^ Just saying it’s now front and centre on their website homepage.

If you click on it it just links through to the normal ps3s being sold off cheap (much like asda, etc etc etc)

    Another false alarm.

Obviously some 360 fanboy must be in charge of KMart’s website today, LOL.
