Report – UK PS3 hardware stock drying ahead of price cut
MCV’s claiming UK retail channels are being stripped of PS3 hardware in anticipation of a new price point “expected” in “early September”.
“Sourcing PS3 stock has been a challenge for the last two to three weeks,” said a retail source.
“There are obviously lots of rumours flying about as to why that might be. I don’t think it’s to do with demand, though. Sales are low at the moment and have been for a while. We’ve been told not to expect any further hardware deliveries until September.”

I think it’ll have to be 249.99 to show some sort of reasonable discount has been made. Anything more than that and it’s going to be a bit of a damp squid in the UK.
If the pound hadn’t taken such a massive hit since the launch, I’m sure the price would be a lot closer to 199.99.

Are people seriously suggesting Sony will nearly halve the price and make the new SKU cheaper than a Wii? Sounds rather optimistic.
My guess is the Fat will immediately drop to £199 to clear, and the slim will be £225-£249 with a game. Holiday season will be led by a GT5 bundle at that price.
That is, of course, if there is just one new SKU……

i could see one SKU. my personal theory is similar to yours cort. i see them getting rid of the PS3 ‘fat’ sharpish and moving the slim into it’s price-point. probably, knowing sony, at the same price.
