Netflix confirmed as 360 exclusive [Update]
Oh, daddy. Microsoft’s confirmed the reason Netflix has been so hesitant to lay its hat on PS3 and Wii: it’s got an exclusive deal in place with the US online movie provider.
According to the update notes released as part of today’s 360 summer dashboard update, the platform holder stated the following:
Netflix Partnership
This exclusive partnership offers you the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the television via Xbox 360. Xbox 360 will be the only game console to offer this movie-watching experience, available to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix unlimited plan subscribers, at no additional cost.

I’ve never quite understood why Sony is fussed about Netflix on PS3, when it owns the rights to so many films and has it’s own service established. Surely it’s going to make more cash improving and establishing it’s own PSN based service, than allowing a third party on there.

Yeah if Netflix don’t seem to want to launch in the UK it would be nice if Lovefilm got in on the act with console streaming, doing it from their website is a bit rubbish.

This is not news…
Check out the original press release from July 14th 2008.
It contains the exact same wording as the stuff that the blogs trot out as news to day. Blogs could really use to do at least some background checking before posting a story.
