Square Enix posts sizeable net loss in wake of Eidos purchase

After taking a $117 million hit from Eidos, Square Enix’s financials are looking a little worse for the wear. The two-headed Japanese giant posted a net loss of 1.67 billion yen for the quarter ending on June 30.

Sales were also down 1.2 percent when compared to the same period last year, coming in at 29.4 billion yen. In spite of that, though, the company’s games division performed quite well, with sales up 7.2 percent. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Final Fantasy XI (yes, XI) were listed as reasons for this upswing.

Other than that, though, Square Enix is basically doomed. We can’t, for the life of us, think of anything that might pull the company out of this slump. We guess they have that little DS game they released last month. Uh, Large Fictional Lizard Adventure, was it? But who even bought that?

Thanks, Industry Gamers.

The only thing that set them back was buying Eidos

Oh crikey Phoenixblight, it’s pretty bloody obvious Nathan was being sarcastic,. Ever heard of Final Fantasy? That’s gonna sell more copies than the Bible, given the pre-release hype in some quarters.

Don’t see anything about sarcasm in there and his tone of writing seems condecending. That article (Industry Gamers) was half baked anyways Edge lays it out.

If he meant to be sarcastic he should have written it in a better tone or /sarcasm There was nothing of the sort.

If square enix were smart, they’d release a remake of FF7 for the PS3. Im sure that would help them get out of the slump they’re in.

What the fuck is the allure of playing a game you’ve already played but with better graphics and costing you an extra 40 quid? I don’t want any ff remakes, but I wouldn’t mind reissues.

Actually Phoenix, I would probably have written the same thing as Nathan if I had written the article. We’re both very sarcastic (although nothing on Steph) so give him a break.
