Rumor: Apple’s new tablet is a gaming system

macbook-touch

Rumor going round the net states that Apple’s new tablet (MacBook Touch) is an actual gaming system.

The netbook, according to an analyst who claims to have seen it, is a 10-incher that will sync, Wi-Fi stream from home devices, has a touch screen, and was designed for gaming.

Currently awaiting the “go head” from Steve Jobs, the device will run somewhere in the $699-$799 range. Supposedly it is on for a September reveal and could start hitting stores as early as November.

According to the Telegraph, computer manufacturers have slowed production on tablet gizmos to wait and see what Apple is bringing to the fold.

Chances are it’ll be an expensive thing in the UK.

I’ve always wanted to get an Apple laptop. but I cant.

Too fucking expensive, even for the Mac mini :(

Touch screens and gaming eh?

DO NOT WANT

Anyone remember tactile feedback? That thing that even touch screens with tactile feedback fucking suck at? It’s a pretty important factor in gaming, so lets forget touch screens and get back to fluid control systems that enhance the game rather than trip it up, shall we?

Johnny, Macs are investments, I have 2, and they have lasted me much longer than any of my friends non-Mac laptops. I got my girl to get one and she is happy with her’s as well. Save up, and you are buying more than just the components its also an operating system that works really well.

Having said that, I will not be buying this. I don’t really enjoy mobile gaming, haven’t had anything since the GameGear and I prefer much more my PS3 on my 42 Plasma…

My only issue is that my dad works for Research in Motion, who make Blackberries, so I am a Mac user who can’t get an iPhone, not that I want to be one of the mindless, but it is a nice machine. I hope for my Dad’s sake that RIM comes out with something good soon.

An ACTUAL gaming system? And by gaming do you mean “Peggle”? ;)

Oh, I’m just full of lolz today.

…I’ll be honest, I’m interested. There are wonderful things that can be done with a touch screen.

I love my Ipod touch, but I cant see paying that much for an laptop like gaming system. It would have to blow me away to want it. Apple has me intrigued……….

I can’t imagine it’s being designed AS a gaming system, I should think it’s more likely to be one in the same way the iPhone is a gaming system- a convergence device that makes gaming accessible. That’s assuming this thing even exists at all (gotta love the internet).

Talking of iPhones, I’m converting to the HTC Hero. I hope there’s some apps/games that’ll work with it.

(I’m writing this from the teacher’s prep room at my new college! teehee)

If it were designed for gaming it wouldn’t cost $699-$799.

This is Apples shady PR machine kicking into action again via a sanctioned leak getting sites to report and hype news, they did the exact same with the iPhone 3GS and a few sites took the bait (that it was a gaming dedicated device).

An over-sized iPhone with a faster CPU and GPU thats all its likely to be.

@Johnny
+1 to what Mad-Elph said. Yes you pay a premium for the kit, but it is generally a better set-up and quality than the cheaper PC alternatives. Was a big PC user and switched to Mac a couple of years ago and will not go back. Providing they do what you want them to do – i.e. you are not so worried about the latest games etc I just find it a really good OS to use.

There are plenty of reasons to own a PC still, but if you are looking for a solid system to use productively then imo you won’t regret the extra expense and you may well regret going for the cheaper PC option.

As for this new device – chalk it up as something I have feelings of *need* for but can’t actually express why ;) . I think it will firmly be in the media device that can also play games camp though.

@Rainer
“An over-sized iPhone with a faster CPU and GPU thats all its likely to be.”

That may well be all the tech specs are likely to be but you completely miss why Apple is so successful if you judge their products purely on tech specs. Example, based on tech specs the iPhone compares fairly poorly to the competition, yet it’s been massively successful.

I’ve had to replace My wife’s MacBook battery twice in two years. I love Macs.

If it is a gaming device, then it’ll have to have more external buttons than iPhone to be a serious contender. I’ve slowed my purchase of iPhone games considerably in recent months, just because the controls really aren’t functional for many traditional game types.

I was wondering when Apple was going to get round to inventing the touchscreen computer.
