Exploit-squashing COD 4 patch “in the works”

cod41

Turning the unpredictable, blood-soaked art of modern warfare into a fair — even sportsmanlike — affair sounds like a near-impossible task to us, so it’s no surprise that players are occasionally able to slip illicit tactics under even Infinity Ward’s well-trained nose. Not for long, though — because Infinity Ward knows what exploiters are up to, and is already hard at work on an exploit-busting patch.

“Success! A patch is in the works for PS3 and Xbox 360 to address the recent COD4 exploits. I’ll keep you posted on the progress,” tweeted Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling.

And we’ll keep you posted on Bowling’s keeping you posted.

I will never understand why people find enjoyment in doing this sort of thing. It’s like seeing a bunch of kids having fun playing football and being such an arsehole that you feel the need to beat them utterly using a premiership team.

My nephew has reached the top “prestige” he tells me, so for him, he see’s no reason not to use this new hack. I guess many other players are using the hack for exactly the same reason, or are simply waiting for Modern Warfare 2 so feel mucking around like this in COD 4 is fine. Understandable to some degree. Bored of the game you play constantly so you inject something new into the mix by using this “UFO” hack.

Personally, I despise all hackers/glitchers etc, but as I no longer play COD 4 anymore, “it doesn’t affect my game” so it’s all good. :)

Either way, I still find it amusing that a simple .txt edit of the save game file can enable this “hack”. Shame on you Infinity Ward.

LOL!

But seriously, and I mean seriously

Hackers should be banned from online gaming.

Permanently.

If they want to cheat, they should cheat offline where they aren’t spoiling anyone else’s game.

Hackers should be banned from online gaming.
It’s very difficult to do because of the number of false positives. (With some games, using a different skin for your character can get you banned)
There’s been some issues for exemple with people getting VAC-banned on the PC, and loosing all their games, while they had actually never been cheating.

So this is a complex issue. In principle, hackers should be banned from online gaming, but in practise, server-related bans can be enough for people who cheat repeatedly in the same place, because it’s pretty much the only way to be sure that someone is cheating.

Yeah, but then they’ll just use another server, and ruin other people’s games.

Anyway, I’m not sure how feasible it is on PC, but it should be pretty straightforward on XBL.

Ban the console, ban the gamertag, ban the IP address if possible.

Then any appeals should have to be made in writing, to stop people phoning up and crying over the phone to get themselves un-banned in a matter of minutes, even though they’re guilty as charged.

You know, theres quite a difference between a hacker and someone whose exploiting a bug thats already in a game.

Maybe, but at the end of the day they’re both cheating.

They’re both ‘using’ (I don’t say playing) a game in order to win through unfair means.

You can pretty much guarantee that when this exploit gets patched, they’ll do their best to find another one.

The desired end is the same even if the method may be slightly different. Therefore, the punishment should be the same too.

myself being a cheater and working on a new mod to bypass the upcoming patch, i find it fun to mod only because after playing it since nov. of last year it gets boring. i dont do it to ruin peoples lives or to get a ton of kills but just to have fun. the only reason i will kill someone while modding is just to see a reaction. if its good then ill continue but if its not ill stop and play normally. you have to see it from someones elses shoes.

Sorry, but the only person having “fun” is you.

Everyone else is there to play the game fair and square, within the rules.

You basically make every round that you cheat in a complete waste of time for every other person in there.

If you find the game boring, either go and play something else that you don’t find boring, or mod the single player and have “fun” on your own. Or if you’re desperate for other people, start a private match and play with your friends.

There is absolutely no point whatsoever in you ruining other peoples game time, that they are paying money for.

Whether it’s LIVE or just their internet connection, people pay to game online, fair and square.

You should stop wasting everyones money.

i have tried that but no game is like cod 4, world at war sucks. and its not boring unless i play with the usual jugger sluts, last stand, martydom, im a sniper and usually play sniper lobbies but when i dont i get tired of that gay bullshit and mod it, but the only thing i can do now is change teams so its not that bad and im not wastin anyones money they can easily leave the game and find another match its not like i follow one person and fuck with them

Yeah, thats great zdoModz.
It’s nice to see you rationalize your baloney.

It’s one thing to use a games own system to mess with people. No mod or extra tweeks needed, just use whats in the game already. Thats annoying too, but can be funny at times. (IE: The grappling hook in the original Quake, or the air gun in the original unreal tournament, etc)

But giving youself an unfair advantage ruins the fun for most people. You might think its haha, but an average older player, who gets just a few hours a week of gameplay, doesnt want to waste that time being annoyed by some ass who thinks he’s being funny.
