So, using previous analist estimates of the cost of manufacturing each PS3, can anyone figure out exactly how they’re still managing to lose so much money?

Maybe they aren’t? Maybe developing a new PS3 costs money?

Well it started at 800 dollars, and if those figures are to be believed, it now costs 240 to produce. I suppose that could be the cost of a slim, which would mean they could comfortably knock 100 dollars off the price of the hardware.

As to your question. It’s not greatly relevant because they’d still likely sell / trade in their broken console which someone else would buy / repair – taking the place of a new sale. So if I were to put a number on it… 25,000.

Well, as it’s about the 5th time you’ve “asked”, I’d figured you’d probably already got the answer by now… hence the random number.

If you really believe that there’s a significant amount of people that would rather spend $200 than wait two weeks to get their 360 back from a warranty fix… that’s fine. But… 360 owners are poor right? So why would any of them want to do that?

Maybe euros will wait but americans are impatient brats. they need their gaming fix asap even if it means dropping $200 on a brand new system that comes out later with a bigger hard, or look now it has HDMI, or look this one comes with two crappy games for $200. You Might as well buy a new one right? That’s the way these americans think hence the reason why its a territory where M$ has the clear lead.

And the economy may be screwed at the moment but $200 isn’t a lot of money even for the poor class of america. They just wait for their welfare checks lol. I could shit out $200, hell if you’re over the age of 21 and you can’t get or earn $200 within the matter of a week then you don’t deserve to be alive(unless you’re disabled or something).

I’ll take your word for all of that. I collate dead 360 stats over at NeoGAF and of the 1300+ dead 360s I’ve recorded over there… only 30 or so people have said that they’re going to buy a new one rather than get the old one fixed.

Chances are they still sell the broken one / trade it in though (many stores take broken 360s and get them repaired themselves).

On topic however, this is good news for sony, hopefully they’ll improve their business choices, their current business make up has been horribly ineffective since launch of the PS3. Were i in charge i’d exploit my monetary efficiency and reduce the price of the PS3.

I am an American “Brat” and theevilaires, the days of buying every new incarnation of a system is OVER…With the Massive melt down of the economy, Banks failing, All 3 top auto’s failing, Mortgages Failings, and now Health Care failing, not even those in the upper crust can just drop money like dirt anymore! All of my portfolios over the last 2 years have lost money each quarter! I was used to seeing thousands go in each quarter, not thousands coming out! Also my $1.00 was buying me about $1.71, for each dollar spent, now my $1.00 is buying me about .72cents for each dollar spent, so I am bleeding money and have to stop somewhere, and part of that is on free spending. I am now using “entertainment” dollars to plug holes in other area’s. So until that stops and I can turn all my entertainment dollars back to entertainment, the down turn will continue!
