Telltale: “iPhone is much more powerful than Wii”

A Telltale Games programmer has revealed on the firm’s official forums that iPhone is much more powerful than Wii.
The reasoning for the comment stemmed from complaints regarding framerate issues with the WiiWare version of Tales of Monkey Island.
According to a programmer, developers were limited to 40 megs for WiiWare because of hardware and file size restrictions, where as PC titles created were usually around 150 megs.
“The voices and textures are the way they are because we’re limited to 40 megs for WiiWare titles,” he stated. “The PC versions of our games are usually 150+ megs, and most modern games range anywhere from one to ten gigabytes or more. Talk to Nintendo about this one.
“Frame rate issues will probably get sorted out eventually, but keep in mind that the Wii is just not a powerful console. An iPhone is much more powerful than a Wii, even. The Wii and DS are extremely underpowered and their popularity doesn’t remove the hardware limitations.”
Yikes.
Thanks, GI.biz.

So if a Wii is 2 Gamecubes taped together, does that make an iphone equal to 4 Gamecubes taped together? Anyone know the iphone to Gamecube ratio?

I just don’t know why they released it on Wii and not 360 or PS3 or just to stay PC exclusive. PC is the most suitable platform for that kind of games. Maybe they put it only on Wii because it has a more comfortable controlls or I just don’t know…

I’ve seen the iPhone do Resi 4, and I’ve seen the Wii do Resi 4, and if you’ll pardon my saying so Mr Developer Man the latter looks a hell of a lot better than the former.

Surely that’s down to the development team, no?

The iPhone doesn’t even seem to be able to do PSP level graphics if that Resi 4 app is anything to go by.

Anyone that has played a decent iphone game knows it slighty better or worse than a dreamcast in 3d performance. While the wii might have file size issues, the polygon performance is much better on the wii.

True, but I’d happily set Resi 4 Wii against any iPhone title you’d care to mention (technically that is – frame rate, polygon count, lighting, etc).
