Epic doesn’t plan to release major retail versions of UT for a few years

Epic CEO and founder, Tim Sweeney, has told G4 that the firm does not plan to release retail versions of Unreal Tournament for quite a while.
“Unreal Tournament is certainly a major long-term priority but we’re planning not to release a major retail game in the series. for several years,” Sweeney said. “So we have that effort somewhat on hold while we work on a few other initiatives.”
Meanwhile, Sweeney stated that Epic will continue to support the mod community and in the future announce plans to “open up the engine to more people to use freely and use cool stuff.”

They need some time away from UT i’d say, as UT3 was terrible.

They would be better off doing a reboot of the original Unreal, and add Unreal Tournament style multiplayer.
Multiplayer only games aren’t doing as well as they used to. battlefield 1943 did well, but at $15 thats a different sotry. If it was $60 I dont see it being near the hit it was.
Still, its time for something new from epic.

This is great, I’d love to see a new IP from Epic. Just as long as it comes to PC.

Either do a proper mano-a-mano deathmatch game or do Battlefield 1942: Sci-fi Edition. Don’t do both.

Better yet, do a PC game or do a console game, trying to please both crowd will fall flat on its face… just as UT3 did.

“UT3 was great on console.” hehe, and that’s why pc gamers have the best shooters available to them while the console owners have just a few..

Epic totally sold their soul to M$. And I wanted so much a new real UT which is more like 2k4 and not that excuse for UT – 3. And yes Hunman try to please the PC and console fans at once and you get 2 options total fail or only the console version has success and then they said PC games don’t sell. When you are not offering something that the PC gamers want it is obvious it won’t sell. The only exception is with TF2 but that is only because of the policy of Valve.
