Philadelphia Inquirer chastises Infinity Ward over night vision goggles

nightvision

The Philadelphia Inquirer has chastised Infinity Ward for the functional night vision goggles included with Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition.

According to the piece, some people would not be responsible users of such equipment.

“I would say 99.9999 percent of gamers who buy the Prestige edition will have a blast with these new goggles, innocently playing around at night with them.

“Yet, it is also like giving away a free race car with Gran Turismo or Forza – someone is going to cause a highway wreck. In Modern Warfare 2′s case, I shudder (just a bit) to think of someone, who may have a hard time with reality anyway, donning these goggles for real mischief or even worse.

“Infinity Ward should know better. They are great at fake realism. One of the best. This maybe be crossing that line, however.”

Someone should inform them they’re not real Night Vision Goggles.

Got laugh at the fact that he says 99.9% of people will use them responsibly, but then goes on to say that “Infinity Ward has crossed the line” because that 9.1% of individuals will act like tards.

Tabloid piece, much?

Yeah thats why the our country is the way it is We have to censor things for the people who “may” just do something wrong with it.

You know what?

I actually agree with him, NVGs are military equipment at heart & should not be mistaken for some toy you get with a video game..

And the thought of tons of little kids (who haven’t had their balls dropped yet, I might add) using them to spy on woman at night gives me shudders.

It’s a bit like giving away a Dildo with Leisure Suit Larry!

See? It’s ridiculous lol

That’s not ridiculous – a free dildo would be incredible.

Only problem I can see is people breaking streetlights to plunge areas into darkness and then people using the NV goggles to do nasty things to ladies.

Hmm, maybe they should be banned. :-s

These things can’t see further than 10 feet. They’re not proper Night Vision Goggles. They’re a piece of plastic with an infra-red light attached to them.

… Okay, So why are they going to cost like £119.99 in UK stores then.. Hmm?

That’s alot of dough for some plastic toy, don’t you think?

I mean, I Personally think that it’s to stop some little minor just happening to drop in & buy the damn thing but who knows..

Its activision…. they would make it 100 just for the game if they could but they have to add “value”

The “hardened” version of the game costs £70. So £50 for the fancy box, the mannequin head and the “night vision goggles”. Still think they’re not a toy?

Hi. My name is Slayer. I have a hard time with reality. If I am to better myself, the first step is to admit to my problem.

There. That felt nice.

Why is it that we always watch out for the loonies at 00.00001 percent? We can’t do this, we can’t do that because someone might be an ass.
It’s like nudity in games. We can’t actually have adult content in many games as the poor children who have lousy parents might get to it, and it will corrupt their wittle minds.
I’m sure these glasses are really good night vision goggles, state of the art…………sigh…..

after about 3 seconds google research it seems that proper night vision goggles start at £250 and go up to £4000, so I’d say these are most likely functional but shit.

Toys in other words.

The Night Vision Goggles can see 50 feet. Functional. Nice. Nothing too special.
