Pachter: Sony will cut PS3 price before October 1 if console sales keep crashing

Wedbush Morgan super-analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that Sony will cut PS3′s price before October 1 if US hardware sales continue to slide.

Speaking in a note today, Pachter estimated that US Wii, 360 and PS3 sales will show a year-on-year decline of 43 percent for June.

“We think that the console manufacturers will therefore be forced to consider a price cut before year-end, with Sony cutting the PS3’s price by October 1,” he said.

“Further, we do not think that Nintendo’s hardware forecast figures are achievable without a price cut, and we expect one around the same time as the PS3 price cut.

“It is likely both manufacturers will cut by $50, with Sony making up any lack of increased demand with a software bundle.

“We expect Microsoft to follow suit, giving us confidence that US software sales will grow later in the year, notwithstanding negative sales in the early part of the year.”

Pachter predicted sales of 350,000 Wii, 225,000 Xbox 360 and 165,000 PS3 consoles in June today. The June NPD releases this Thursday.

I wish Michael Pachter would just go away. He’s become something of a puedo-celebrity and I think it’s gone to his head.

Lol…can we start an ANTI-PACHTER campaign here please? I’ll start by boycotting any story posted that’s associated with the man himself. Apart from this one, obviously. ;)

Honestly, this isnt news. VG27 – can i remove all Pachter articles with some kind of high-level RSS feed? Thks.

I honestly don’t see why everyone hates Pachter so much. Recently, a lot of the predictions he’s been making have been completely sound, including this one.

It’s because we make guesses too but we don’t get paid for it. :-)

I agree Patcher is like the plague now, some sites at least have cottoned on that they’re being manipulated by so called analysts trying to steer events for the companies they work for and stocks/investment they manage in their favor.

If they still want to try and peddle their predictions leave them be at sites just dedicated to the business end like gameindustry.biz

I don’t see why so many people complain about the guy…

Ironically, just like Jack Thompson (although not quite as bad), most stories related to the guy are full of people commenting on how much they hate him.

So as long as people keep doing that, he’ll be generating traffic, and no doubt the next time he speaks we’ll go through the same cycle again…

Yeah, I really don’t care, I doubt you’ll ever find me reacting to Pachter.

It’s just one news story you can skip over.

People need to be a bit more thick skinned if they are annoyed by reused interview stories and Pachter.

The market isn’t all about the US. So long the SCEE en SCEJ region keep steady numbers, Sony will keep with their current statement.

They’re down year on year their two biggest markets (US / Europe) and soon to be in Japan. Though I guess it depends how you define steady.
