The British public has bought 24.2 million hardware units this generation, according to data from GfK Chart-Track.

Do we know what the cut-off date for these figures is? 0.3m for the DSi seems pretty low, which suggests they’re from just after the DSi launched.

Hey, Psycho! Have you still got the last bunch of figures for comparison? :-)

Wow.

Difference between 360 and PS3 is lower then I thought would be.

Actually, the gi.biz article has all kinds of interesting stuff. The gap between the PS3 and 360 might not be as wide as you thought, Johnny, but it increased rather significantly in the last year.

Last figures:

September 2008 – UK LTD
NDS – 7.1m
Wii – 3.6m
PSP – 2.9m
360 – 2.3m
PS3 – 1.4m

So since those figures…
NDS – 2.3m (Inc DSI)
Wii – 1.8m
360 – 1.6m
PS3 – 0.8m
PSP – 0.4m

Interesting (someone check my math… my brain doesn’t work this early in the day).

Delicious. So yeah, based on the figures for the year ending September 2008 it would seem that Wii demand has dropped a bit and 360 demand has picked up a bit.

I’ve just found the numbers up to the end of 2008. I forgot we had them:

LTD as of 03/01/2009
DS – 8.8m
Wii – 4.9m
360 – 3.2m
PSP – 3.2m
PS3 – 1.9m

Which gives us the sales for the last 6 months…
360 – 0.7m
NDS – 0.6m (Inc DSI)
Wii – 0.5m
PS3 – 0.3m
PSP – 0.1m

That can’t be right, can it?

Hey Blerk, have a look at those numbers too will ya? You can have your Jaffa cake back for it. ;)

They just don’t seem right.

No, that looks right. And is fairly surprising.

I’d love to know which flavour of 360 is selling best in the UK. Is it the cheap-as-chips Arcade that’s driving it, or are most people buying the Pro?

Nice work Psycho :)

Blerk – Sir Pachter has said before that the average sale price of the 360 in the US is around the same as a Pro.

Bit of a guess, but I would imagine a similar pattern in the UK – The amount of Elites sold just about balances out the number of Arcades sold.

I can only put the rapid acceleration of the 360 down to the cheaper arcade unit. There were plenty of reports of the last price cut significantly turning things around in Europe and they were doing pretty well here as it was.

Odd that MS hasn’t put out some PR over this. I think the numbers are a bit suspect.

On the subject… Game / Chart Track say that the 360 has outsold the Wii 2:1 since February in the UK. The PS3 has matched the Wii’s sales in the same period. 8O

£150 is a sweet spot for sure.
