Splinter Cell Conviction can be played through in 12 hours, creative director Maxime Beland has told OXM.
“I want people to play my games and finish them,” Beland said.
“We’re going to ship with difficulty levels, at least a normal mode and realistic mode – like we did on Rainbow Six Vegas.
“And realistic is going to be really fucking hard – you’re going to need stealth, two bullets is going to kill you, the enemies are going to be super-lethal.”
The full interview’s in the latest edition of the mag. If you can’t be bothered to spend money, just wait till next week: it’s all going to be posted on the site.
The game’s out for PC and 360 in October.

“two bullets is going to kill you” makes the game sound pretty badass to me. I’ve never really payed much attention to the Splinter Cell games and never played any but I think I might get this one
Sounds really challenging even though they say you can finish it in 12 hours.

Sounds quite long for this gen.
Lutz said:
£40 for 12 hours? That’s £3.33 an hour.
Pfft. I’d rather go down the pub for that.
…
Lutz said:
And that “realistic” option sounds good; *IF* you can kill the enemies in 1 or 2 shots too.
Games being made hard by reducing your stats and upping there’s are just shit WRT to difficulty levels. So most then TBH.

@Psychotext
Yep that’s on the upper side of a lot of SP campaigns these days. Didn’t the last SC have some interesting MP stuff too?
Retroid said:
Sounds good, and makes it more likely for me to play through it twice like I did with Double Agent.
Watched the E3 live playthrough on Co-Op and it looks like a must-buy for me! \o/
G1GAHURTZ said:
Ubisoft ‘Realistic’ isn’t all that hard. At least it never has been before.
All you have to do is play the game a bit more slowly…
asphaltcowboy said:
What Retroid said! Love SC and 12 hours sounds just about right to me! Cannot wait for this, definitely one of my most anticipated for the year!
Psychotext said:
@Ghz: Rainbow Six Vegas was pretty hard on realistic.
G1GAHURTZ said:
I found it pretty straightforward.
Practically the only times when I failed a mission was because of the ridiculously stupid squad AI not taking cover and getting shot to pieces in the middle of the room. Which meant that I had to put myself in the line of fire to go save them… Which I often would, only for them to walk straight back there and get shot again!!
Mission failed.
Good grief!!!
I’m going to stop thinking about it now…

12 hours in a Splinter Cell game means you have to be effing good at it. It will lasty me like 300 hours, if I decide to buy it
loki said:
Still not going to buy it, because PC PORT

What I don’t like about the Splinter Cell games is the amount of time you spend with your night goggles on.
It kinda makes the graphics end of things seem pointless really.
I still haven’t bothered to finish chaos theory because of it.
Still that’s just my take on it and I mean no disrespect to the franchise.
hitnrun said:
I can’t see why anyone would have a problem with 12 hours. I yield to no one in my disdain for how short games have become but 12 hours for an actiony stealth game is fine with me, as long as that’s a relatively skilled playthrough.
@reask: This game does look like a different animal though.
Lutz said:
hitnrun, what do you mean, “how short games have become”?
Are you daft? Games are getting LONGER.
G1GAHURTZ said:
Ocarina of Time was like, 40+ hours.
Lutz said:
That’s also an RPG.
Psychotext said:
“I found it pretty straightforward.”
Well aren’t you a clever parrot.
I thought it was just the right balance of difficult / achievable. Usually when you play games on insane / realistic / batshit mental they just give you f’all health, the enemies loads and they turn the AI into aimbot central.

1. Lutz it also has mp if u think it’s too short for u. not that 12 hours isn’t enough. because it is. at least for this kind of game it is.
2. reask u have no idea what game we r talking about here!
Lutz said:
endgame: When did I say 12 hours was too short?
G1GAHURTZ said:
Well, we can’t all be FPS kings, I suppose.
Hehe…

You shut your whore mouth!

No_PUDding said:
People saying it will be logner, becuase splinter cell takes longer….
This game clearly is trying to avoid slowing you down, and avoiding trial and error, so I wouldn’t expect that. It moves and acts more like an action game, in the demo there was hardly any sneaking.
But it looks stunning, and I would pay for it if it were £10 an hour!
reask said:
@endgame.I have heard it is going to be very good.
I will most likely check it out.
I was a little disappointed with chaos though.
Edit. BTW is there a demo available?
No_PUDding said:
How did you hear it was going to be very good? Not even the developers can predict that yet!
G1GAHURTZ said:
Lol!
The heat is really getting to you isn’t it PUD…
No_PUDding said:
Put it this way, rubber just fell off the bottom of this keyboard here.

It’s hot. I am wet.

*Not my face cheeks. Now will you climax Psycho?
Psychotext said:
No, you’ve ruined it now by saying my name.
No_PUDding said:
So, can anyone tell me who else can last twelve hours?
Armitage said:
I’m doing well if I go for 12 minutes. Wait, what are we talking about again?
anasui said:
my nickname’s Fast’n'furious. I must admit I added “Furious” myself
Armitage said:
Hehe

Psychotext could maintain himself, all the while Blerk plays Splinter Cell.
But they have been known to swap those jobs.
Psychotext said:
Olympic performances. Remember that.

No_PUDding said:
Oh yes, i remember now. xD
