Acti Blizz “interested” in entering sports segment

Thursday, 2nd July 2009 07:43 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Acti Blizz boss Mike Griffiths has told IndustryGamers that the sports category is a target for the firm, provided it can take a shot at leadership.

“It certainly has the characteristics of a category that would be interesting to us, but we would have to convince ourselves that we could enter successfully, accomplish leadership and that we’d have something new and different to bring to the party,” said the exec.

“Right now the barriers to entry there are pretty significant, but it is certainly the size of a category that we would be interested in.”

Hear that, Mr Moore? Them’s fighting words. There’s a good interview through there.

You should ask him about that the next time you see him, Pat. :D

As far as Acti-Blizz go, I just cant see it happening, not with EA dominating the genre as it is anyways.

Aren’t sports titles in serious sales decline, though? If you’re not EA Sports you’re basically fucked.

Herr Moore told me sports was growing, but not in line with the rest of the industry, and that a lot of the growth was coming from the casual space. Hence EA Sports Active.

If they did, they’d probably be the first publishers to come out with biannual releases for the same frachise!
