This must have got lost in the fog somewhere. Microsoft announced in Cannes last week that Silverlight ads are to be shown on Xbox Live “within the next year”.
“By extending support to technologies like Silverlight, Xbox Live will offer advertisers and creative designers scale and reach with their campaign creative assets, enabling them to build and deliver interactive, interconnected experiences that are unlike anything else on television, and extend these experiences across multiple screens – the TV, the PC, and Mobile,” said the firm.
That piece specifically says “Xbox Live” – stands to reason that you’re not going to be seeing any ads unless you’re connected to the internet – but there’s no specific about where the creatives are actually going to appear.
And you’re not going to be running a blocker on your 360. Best prepare for adageddon.

Probably within the segments of TV like Sky or Canal+ when watching their content (which are probably running on silverlight anyway), MS said in the past they didn’t want ad’s on the NXE itself like the old dash had.

Oh goody – so we’re going to get badly coded web adverts on our tellies too.
/waits for the first ad with an accidental infinite loop to freeze the dash…

if its getting ads, they can make live free, as theres no ads on the ps3 and it’s free!!

Don’t you occasionally get ads already? I’ve seen “boxes with video” within the NXE interface before advertising movies or sports events.

The dashboard had just started to reach a reasonable speed as well. Oh well.

There are adverts between rounds in 1 vs 100 too, so it could have something to do with that.
