Teaser trailer for LotRO’s Book 8: Scourge of Khazad-dum lands

A teaser trailer for Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria’s new update has landed.
Book 8: Scourge of Khazad-dum will take players to the Water Wheels and up against some very strange – and large – monsters.
June is when it’s expected.

Plenty of E3 “shockers” on the way, says Sony

According to Sony rep Jake Osuwah, there are still plenty of “shockers” still to come from the company’s press conference tomorrow at at 11am PST (7pm BST).
“Pre-E3 announcements or not! There’s still lots of shockers planned for you guys @ E3, stay tuned…,” he said via Twitter.
In case you missed it, PSP Go! was seemingly inadvertently revealed over the weekend, plus the fact that there’s a new Metal Gear game on the way for the handheld.
I guess we’ll know tomorrow, eh? We’d be lying if we said we could wait.

Ex-Dynamix and GarageGames founders form PushButton Labs

Jeff Tunnell and Rick Overman, co-founders of Dynamix and GarageGames respectively, have announced the formation of PushButton Labs.
The firm will mostly be working on Flash-based browser games and a new open-source engine.
It’s being reported that the development team plans to relaunch “a classic game property [rescued] from the nether world of a PC game publisher collapse.”
No word yet on which one it is as yet.

New Arkham Asylum vid shows playable Joker

Shacknews has a video of just how The Joker – voiced by Mark Hamill and looking totally awesome to boot – will play in Rock Steady’s romp, Arkham Asylum.
Remember, the playable Joker character is only available to PS3 owners.
Game’s out for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on August 25.

WipEout HD Fury expansion pack announced, set for E3 reveal

Tony Buckley, game director fro WipEout HD has revealed a new expansion pack called Fury via the PSBlog.
The WipEout HD Fury expansion pack will increase the content of your current game with 8 new tracks, 13 new ship models and 3 new game modes, 2 of which will be available for online play! In addition there will be new trophies to attain, a re-styled front-end and a selection of new & improved multiplayer functionality!
You won’t have to wait long to see it either, as it’ll be shown at E3 this week. Awesome.

Nintendo DLC: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

Nintendo has released its list of downloadable content for the week, including Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.
The WiiWare title will run you 800 Points, and is a sequel to FFIV. There’s also a Texas Hold’Em Title, Mighty Flip Champs for DSi, and Virtual Console has the original Commodore 64 favorite, Boulder Dash.

Lego Harry Potter officially announced

Warner Bros. Interactive has officially announced Lego Harry Potter (Years 1-4) scheduled for release in 2010.
You’ll be playing as Harry Potter, Ron Wesley and Hermione Granger as you “attend lessons, cast spells, mix potions, fly on broomsticks and complete tasks to earn house points.”
“With Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 we are creating an open, wide-ranging experience within Hogwarts that is full of fun and LEGO magic,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games.
“Harry Potter is one of the most beloved and well-respected characters, and we look forward to bringing gamers a new way of interacting in the universe with the LEGO games’ great humour and exploration.”
No platforms are detailed at this time.

Get pumped. Microsoft’s E3 press conference kicks off at 10.30am PST (6.30pm BST, 7.30pm CET) and you’ll probably want to watch it as well as tuning into our sure-to-be-amazing liveblog.

The EU PS Blog has updated informing us all over what’s coming up on PSN this month and if the headline doesn’t give it away, it includes Fat Princess and a Ghostbusters PS3 demo.
There’s Trash Panic and Numblast too, and some PSP classics are promised.

Activision’s latest Guitar Hero expansion, Guitar Hero Hits – or Smash Hits if you’re in the States – is now available to download from Xbox Live in the US and Europe.
It’s 498Mb and is available to Gold Subscribers only.

EG.fr.TV has a rather nice Colin McRae’s Dirt 2 trailer boasting all the features you can expect to experience when the game ships this September for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, PSP, Wii and DS.

Mass Effect 2 coming January 2010, says marketing [Update]

Mass Effect 2 marketing on Eurogamer has included a January 2010 release date for the RPG.
The detail is expected to be formally announced in the EA press conference at 2.00pm PST today.
Previously, the BioWare game was pegged for an “early” 2010 ship.
Not any more.
Update: EA’s just told us that the Eurogamer ad was not approved and the date was a placeholder. The creative has now been replaced on the site and the game is still slated to release “early in 2010″.

Crysis 2 announced for PC, 360 and PS3

EA just announced Crysis 2 for PC, 360 and PS3.
No details, no media.
“The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio,” said Crytek boss Cevat Yerli.
“This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3.
“We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”
