Press release confirms APB as PC only [Update]

apb2b

The official APB press release issued by EA yesterday seems to stipulate that Realtime Worlds MMO will be PC only.

“Electronic Arts Inc. and Realtime Worlds, Inc. announced today that they have entered an exclusive marketing and distribution agreement for North America and Europe that will bring the highly-anticipated All Points Bulletin (APB) to PC in early 2010,” says the release.”

Rumour broke last month the APB was to be part of Microsoft’s E3 press conference, thus leading to speculation the game would be heading to console.

We’ll be interviewing Real Time Worlds this week so hopefully we can find out more.

Stay tuned.

Update: Realtime Worlds has updated the APB FAQ:

Q: “Will there be console ports?”
A: “We’re just starting to evaluate opportunities for a console port but do not have anything to announce yet.”

Thanks, Superfrog.

Update 2: Team Xbox cornered a RTW spokesperson who claimed: “”We’re not giving details out at the moment, but it is being developed for Xbox 360.” Which kind of did the opposite of what the spokesperson said it would. But there you go.

The saga continues.

Thanks, Blerk-o.

APB is more like GTA or Call of Duty than WoW, says Realtime Worlds

apb1b

Realtime Worlds’ Dave Jones has told Gama that new MMO APB lends itself more to games such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto than World of Warcraft.

“WoW’s great, and it’s attracting huge numbers, but let’s face it there’s probably still more players on GTA and Call of Duty in terms of online,” said Jones when asked about filling online space and “chasing WoW” for easy success.

“The[y] love online games, they spend all their time there, but really, nobody’s trying to push the envelope in terms of personalization, customization, persistence, matchmaking, so many areas that are ripe for somebody to come in.

“It’s intimidating for those with less experience, or less time maybe, who want to dip in and dip out of the game.”

It was announced last night that EA is set to publish the game.

APB is available for PC “early 2010″.

Ubisoft shows Assassin’s Creed 2 trailer, sounds great

assassinscreeda22

During the Ubisoft event at E3, an Assassin’s Creed 2 trailer was shown.

It showed people dancing in Italy during a festival of sorts, all in masks with fireworks in the background.

One firework hit the ground, acting as a flash bang- during which time our protagonist character assassinates a guy during the confusion.

Then all a sudden people are chasing him, he’s sort of caught and confronts their leader. He then fires something out of the place where his hand-blade should be.

Kills the guy.

Sound great, wish we were watching.

It will be up soon, we’re sure.

Ubisoft announces fitness game, Your Shape – uses a camera

fitness

Ubisoft has announced a fitness game that uses a camera to scan your body. It’s called Your Shape.

The camera places you in the game, like you are looking in a mirror, keeps track of you, so you can’t cheat through the game like in WiiFit and constantly adjusts to your needs.

It’s coming to Wii this holiday season.

RUSE trailered at Ubisoft’s E3 event

rusea

RUSE trailer was shown during the Ubisoft presser at E3.

Apparently the WWII RTS allows two people staring at each other to play with their fingers, pointing ships in the direction they should go. Telling tanks where to fire.

All atop what seems to be one of those minority report tables.

It’s out for PC, 360 and PS3 later this year,

When the trailer is released we will post it to avoid any confusion.

Rumor: Listing for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Maker, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow surface

konami

Konami rumor floating about shows new titles Metal Gear Solid: Peace Maker for PSP and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for Xbox 360 and PS3.

It was accidentally posted on GamesPress.

MGS on PSP is not too much of a stretch, but the adding “Castlevania” to Lords of Shadow despite how much it looks like a one of the titles is a bit surprising.

Also, according to the slip, Metal Gear Solid: Rising is not a 360 exclusive but will head to PC and PS3 as well.

Hopefully the Konami press event on June 3 will reveal more.

Head over to Joystiq for the full thing.

Red Steel 2 to be bundled with WMP, per Ubisoft press event

redsteel2

A Red Steel 2 trailer was shown at Ubisoft’s E3 presser.

It showed a desert, a swordsman controlled by the player surrounded by enemies. Swordsman pulls out a gun, hits baddie with sword and shoots him while he was down.

That’s the dual-wielding weapons thing the devs have been talking about. The harder you swing the sword, the harder you hit.

It’s also bloodless, but brutal. You can knock enemies into the air, follow him into the sky, and back down.

In the demo shown, a guy was pulled by a motorcycle, almost hit by an 18-wheeler, escaped before an explosion, and he’s up and ready to fight.

Game runs at 60 frames per second and will be bundled with MotionPlus at launch.

James Cameron shows up on Ubisoft stage, talks Avatar

avatar1

James Cameron showed himself at the Ubisoft presser for E3.

It was told to the attendees earlier that Avatar would be shown tomorrow. But out steps James to fill us in.

Cameron mispronounced Ubisoft, talked about the back story to Avatar along with new performance technology and CG tech developed to make the film.

Game and film take place on a planet called Pandora, where the aliens – called Na’vi – are “blue with tiger stripes”, some smoking hot and 10 feet tall apparently.

Humans come. Destroy the land. Mate with the blue tiger people, and thus you have Avatars. We think.

Humans control the Avatar bodies, though. Like a remote control. But they live in the bodies while their own bodies are in comas.

It was described as more than an action game, and has its own story just like the movie. Goal of game is to enhance viewers knowledge of the culture in the Avatar world, and if you feel like you choose the wrong side (aliens vs. humans) at the beginning of the game, you can switch.

Good. Hopefully more on this tomorrow when we are less tired and concrete stuff is handed out.
