StarCraft II won’t have LAN support

starcraftiia3

Um. What? According to this Incgamers piece, Blizzard’s Rob Pardo’s confirmed that StarCraft II won’t have LAN support.

We got quite different answers about local area networking (LAN), where both Dustin or Sigaty said they were still discussing it, however, Pardo knew immediately: “We don’t have any plans to support LAN,” he said and clarified “we will not support it.” The only multiplayer available will be on Battle.net.

Blimey. Very progressive. Kind of makes LAN parties not LAN parties any more.

The game should be out this year.

    Joke?

That is an utterly stupid and ridiculous stance to take. Have Blizzard really lost it? I’m not thrilled to bits at the campaigns being split across three games, but now me and my cousin can’t even have a leisurely LAN game when he’s back from base. Hopefully they’ll realise their error and fix this absurd decision.

IMHO, EVERY game that supports internet multiplayer should allow for LAN. LAN parties are some of my gaming times.

plus… LAN, ALWAYS performs better than standard internet

LMFAO! WHO thought that up? “erm… let’s not support LAN” … OMFG. The first Starcraft is a MASSIVE game (mainly Korea afaik), but still. What a complete joke.

    Game over.

I’m just going to assume this information isn’t correct. They may as well have said the game won’t have mouse support for all the sense it makes.

What?? Everything still supports, all the multiplayer games do it, even the modern ones.
People still do LAN parties you know!

  7. I’ve mailed Blizzard. Hopefully they’ll get back in a tick.

    Let’s see if I have this right…

Actard, the New Evil when it comes to megacorps (ever since EA cleaned up their act and decided they wanted to be liked), also the company responsible for the vile World of Warcraft (the centre of most PC-based retardation and one of the few really bad and Live-like communities that PC gaming has) has done something that could be considered both retarded and evil?

    How utterly surprising!

    Sarcasm filter: How very expected.

    Wow… This can’t be right!

Is it possibly an anti-piracy measure?

  13. Hunam said:

Is this just so people like me have to buy two copies to play someone else sitting 67cm’s away.

still not interested, PC games ain’t cool anyway

Sounds like a move against piracy or second hand selling doesn’t it?

    “Hamachi.”

Hamachi is completely LAN based, so it won’t help you with a game that doesn’t support LAN.

Cracks to enable some form of LAN will emerge however, as they always do to solve wide community concerns.
