Tigon – Some in Hollywood see games as “meaningless bullshit”

vindiesel

Head of Vin Diesel’s Tigon Studios, Ian Stevens, reckons plenty of those in Hollywood are simply forced into games for financial reasons.

“There’s certainly no shortage of guys that look at games and see them as toys, and meaningless bullshit, and now look at revenue – and for their own survival’s sake have to care, and have to get involved,” said Stevens of the Hollywood community.

“I think a lot of it has changed because we’re making so much more money than they are.”

Poor old Hollywood. Read more about who wears the pants in LA’s New World Order on GI.

To be fair I’d probably class most games as “meaningless bullshit”. It’s the same for every medium.

That’s because most of them *are* meaningless bullshit.

Even Hollywood can create an intelligent, thoughtful film when it bothers. The same can not be said for video games, for the most part. I could count the number of genuinely artistic games on one hand.

Since when does a game need to be “artistic” to be good?

why can’t the same be said for videogames as well? You’re basically saying the 90% of hollywood movies is shit, which is true, then you say videogames are bullshit “For the most part”. Doesn’t that imply that, say, 10% of videogames are good? Isn’t the same as movies?

and well artistic videogames mean ass if they aren’t fun Mike.

I don’t agree at all.

If games are going to be taken seriously as a medium, developers need to have the leeway to occasionally ignore ‘fun’ to communicate something else. Perhaps is they can do both, I don’t know, but fun in itself is an emotional feeling. And something that isn’t always suited.

People don’t give developers that leeway without a strong institutional background.

I believe many people who ‘want’ games as art, don’t really understand what they’re asking for. I think they want justification for playing games.

The more I look at this picture, the more gay I become. Especially as it appears evident that Vin is contemplating his own penis.
