Final Fantasy VII downloaded over 100,000 times on PSN

finalfantasyvii

Sony’s confirmed that Final Fantasy VII has been downloaded over 100,000 times on the US PSN in merely two weeks.

This makes it the fastest-selling PS1 download for the network of all time, so far.

Sony says PSN has up to 25 million users globally with over 500 million pieces of content downloaded.

It’s more complicated than that. Whilst it does include multiple accounts, it also includes PS3, PSP, website accounts too.

I’ve got 3 PSN accounts.

The thing is that as it carries on, Sony will soon have more accounts than there are PS3 and PSP users and it’s gonna look silly.

They probably shouldn’t mention the numbers again.

It’s probably going to take a while to get to 70m+ users. :D

Hope this motivates Square to release other titles like FF XIII, IX, possibly Xenogears, Vagrant story, Parasite Eve.

Please Almighty Square gods give us the pleasure of those game again.

There probably would be a lot more if they sold the PSN cards in Europe…

I wonder why Squenix is still resisting remaking this properly?

I think a remake of 7 is inevitable don’t you Blerk? Perhaps they’re testing the waters to see how well the original sells in today’s market first before green lighting it? I don’t have the data, but I would suspect the awesome RE gamecube remake could be used as good example.

I’m only surprised that they haven’t done it yet. Surely there’s absolutely no need to test the waters? People have been lapping up all the crappy off-shoots for years already, they’d go fucking mental for a proper remake! :-D

I hear ya. Well, that’s kind of like my opinion of RE coming to PSP. I can’t believe it took so long. It always seemed like such an obvious decision as people eat up all the other RE spinoff games.

RE remake on Gamecube was similar to TR Anniversary, meaning a remake of the first title in the series being released at about the same time period as the reboot(TR Legend). it was the whole point of both REmake and Anniversary, to reintroduce the series.

and I’m sick of SE milking their old games. how about making some new Chrono or FF game as good as those old ones.

Hopefully FF13 will prove to satisfy your last request!

OK SquareEnix it’s basic math time……

The original Final Fantasy VII had downloads of 100000 @ $9.99 for a total of $999,000 in like a week. Just the PS3 network download. This game is over 10 years old.

So lets say there was a remake/sequel with the same characters for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The average price for new games for these systems is $60.00. So if 100000 were sold at $60.00 each (which is a low estimate, I’m sure it would sell more) would be $6,000,000……not to shabby! Seems like it would be a huge hit and very profitable for SquareEnix, and an awesome game for the fans. SquareEnix you are leaving a ton of money on the table if you don;t seriously consider bring these characters back in some sort of remake or sequel.

Except that remakes and sequels cost money, too.

True, but the profit would be huge after the expenses and it would be a game like FFVII still is today…..a classic that has stood the test of time. Bringing these characters back to a gaming console should be a no brain er. Bottom line is FFVII sequel/remake equals a nice sized profit.
