Kim talks third-party, MGS coming to Xbox 360

According to Microsoft VP Shane Kim, the company feels it has claimed a victory in the third-party sector with Metal Gear Solid Rising coming to Xbox 360.

Speaking with Gamasutra at E3, Kim talked about exclusivity and how it benefits consoles.

“I still think exclusive content is really important,” he told the site. “First of all, in games, we’ve said for a long time that a key part of our strategy with Xbox 360 was a level third-party playing field. Now we’ve effectively done that with Metal Gear Solid coming to the Xbox 360.

“The economics are such that third parties also have to support multiple platforms, and you can’t ignore Xbox 360. It’s the second leading platform.

“But I also think we have to broaden our definition of exclusive content now. It has to include things like Xbox Live, because I do think Xbox Live is a real competitive differentiator for us.

“And now Project Natal is going to be an exclusive thing, too. And so, we feel good about how that’s shaping up, but it’s really not about relying on third parties, because I don’t think that that is sustainable, as we’ve proven. And it’s up to each of us to differentiate on our own.”

A promise for more first party excellence? :D

I wonder what is going on with Spawn Point studios, they were suggested to be working on the next Halo which has now been confirmed as a Bungie project. Another Halo game perhaps, I’d rather have a new exclusive IP though.

The “second leading platform”, eh? He should have gone with “leading HD platform”.

Reminds me of Greenberg’s 2008 statement “we’re equal first with Nintendo this generation”.

I like Shane Kim, think he’s alright.

Cant say the same for Mattrick though.

he is worse, mattrick is just a prick, the only people i hate more than them are the analysts this website seems insistant about posting there views on. If this website stopped posting about them they may just go away.

uuugh…how annoying. He talks about how important exclusives are, but he doesn’t show us any exclusive games for the xbox 360, instead he shows how amazing the xbox 360 is because they managed to get a spinoff Metal Gear game that is going multiplatform.

How many times! It’s not a Metal Gear Solid game! It’s a spin-off! Starring everybody’s least favourite character!

You can see why people might get confused, though, what with it being made by Kojima Productions and being called Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Oh, wait…

lol! The ‘second leading platform’! Nice choice of words! No doubt Sony will be claiming to be the ‘third leading platform’ next week.

They really need to shut Shane up. Like… yesterday.
