Newell: Left 4 Dead updates to continue despite sequel

Speaking to G4, Valve boss Gabe Newell’s assured that Left 4 Dead content updates are to continue despite the fact a controversial sequel’s on the way.
“From a customer’s perspective, we think that given the sort of insane popularity of Left 4 Dead, that people are going to be super excited about getting a sequel to that,” said the exec.
“We’re going to continue to do Left 4 Dead updates and release more content for Left 4 Dead, and then also have Left 4 Dead 2 coming out as well.”
There’s a full interview through there, in which Newell explains the reasoning behind working on a sequel at this point.
More than 20,000 people have signed a petition saying they’ll boycott the game because of its proximity to the first title’s release.

Sounds nice on paper, but doesn’t this mean they are splitting the player base in two?

2 Things that gets my sugar love flowing, L4D and Lady Gaga, they both have Junk in the Trunk. Gabe you release as many L4D titles as you want, I will buy them all, and Lady Gaga Don’t be afraid to show that fine salt shaker. Wow I am happy…which is weird! Time to start a Petition saying that I won’t buy L4D’2 unless L4D 3 and 4 are in the works! Now I have worked myself into a honey lather, time to put L4D in and crank up the Lady Gaga…Kinda of Kinky the way the game play and music sync up!

Fair enough. Should silence the rightly, if piously annoyed members of the Steam community. Can’t wait for some more L4D.

actually I think they stated that they were going to continue to support L4D after L4D2 was released before all that protest crap. Even so once the new version is out why would anyone want to play the old version ? New weapons/special infected. Witches actually walking around and crescendos not about sitting and waiting but instead activating and moving on. The new version sounds 100% better than the first.
