Tecmo kept Other M so secret Koei didn’t know it existed

Nintendo,  Team Ninja, and Tecmo were so secretive regarding the development of Metroid: Other M, that Koei had no idea it existed for some time.

Even when the two companies merged, Tecmo was not allowed to disclose the project per the arrangement with Nintendo.

No word on when the game became common knowledge.

More over on Siliconera.

    It’s one of those Nipponisms.

It means like another Metroid, but they don’t know that other doesn’t make sense, even if another did – without a context.

That’s like naming the next tomb raider…

    “Tomb Raider: Other Tomb.”
    “Tomb Raider: Another Tomb.”

Well Team Ninja are working on it, they’re the masters of iffy voice acting and dodgy localisation.

Is ‘Other M’ actually the name? I thought it was just the project code name.

As far as I’m concerned I hope they *do* bother to release this outside Japan…

The chances of this *not* being released in the west are almost non-existent. Metroid is a franchise that Nintendo has promoted towards western tastes for a good while now.
