VG247 freelance spot available, possibly to you

vg247logo3

We’re looking for someone to cover the Gamescom day-shift this year. The Cologne show runs from August 19-23.

Is it you? Are you “the one”? Questions you may ask, answered:

Will I get paid?

Yes.

What do I have to do?

Write an awful lot of news very quickly, not be stupid, not ever moan ever.

I’ve never written professionally before.

Sorry, dude. We’ve got very little time to train.

Will I go to Germany?

No. You’ll be sat at your PC at home, crying onto your soon-to-be-arthritic hands.

If it works out, will I be able to do more?

You’re a sharp cookie.

Sounds amazing! Please let me do it!

Mail patrick [at] vg247.com and we’ll consider it.

Go on, then. Hurry up.

Yeah, but if I did it, who’d pick up on all *my* spelling mistakes ;)

What if I already am in Germany? ^.^

Tough gig, but rewarding. Delivering the megatons as and when they happen is a great rush.

Just as an indicator, we wrote about 300 stories in three days at E3 last week.

    It’s great fun, believe me.

If I had some experience I’d be at this like a shot, but alas, I don’t.

    Already sent an application.

I’d love to write for a living. The rest of world probably wouldn’t like me to, though. :-D

It’s fun, until you start getting shitty games in the letterbox that you really don’t enjoy but get forced to review anyway…

    “/is confused by ballot paper

    Awwwww…

This had better not be sorted out by proportional representation. We don’t want to end up with the BNP writing about games here. :-)

Feh, you’ll have to try harder than that, Pat. Give me hookers on tap and unlimited Marks and Spencers vouchers, and just maybe I’ll consider it.

    #10 6 years ago
  11. Psychotext

How about hooker vouchers and some Marks & Spencers taps?

    #11 6 years ago
  12. dirigiblebill

You need vouchers for hookers? What is this – the London Blitz?

Just need Chocolate digestives added to that and I’m sold.

  15. Syrok

    Serious question.
How many hours per day would that be?

    #15 6 years ago
  16. Patrick Garratt

9am-6pm but you’d have to be on hand well on time for any liveblogs. I don’t know the timings of those yet.

    #16 6 years ago
  17. dirigiblebill

Woah, choc digestives is pushing it. This ain’t CNN.

    #17 6 years ago
  18. Michael O'Connor

GMT? That’s not a problem for me.

    *stockpiles the caffeine*

  19. Syrok

Hmm, to sacrifice 5 days of my holidays or not to…?

Could I even do that considering that I live in Germany and the Netherlands?

  20. Mike

    Less talk, more action!!

  21. No_PUDding

Well, let me see what my strengths are.

    -Ironic blog writer

    -Lack of journalistic integrity

    -Playstation Fanboy

    -Awful typos

    Hmmm, where do I sign?

I would love to take it seriously, but I reckon I am a bit young to be taken seriously. And that’s fair.

    #21 6 years ago
  22. dirigiblebill

The younger you are, the less they have to pay you.

    #22 6 years ago
  23. tenthousandgothsonacid

@NP Don’t let age get in the way.

It’d be nice to clear out vg247′s middle aged ms fanboy writers for a change :)

  24. No_PUDding

Haha, I appreciate it. But, I’ll wait for them to get really desperate trying to avoid hiring Michael O’Connor.

Sounds good, I might be in but you need to convince me. Is it a bit like Press Gang?

You see, I could be slightly busy with making games. If you increase your original offer a bit more and throw in a few extras then just, maybe. Do you have a Billy Mitchell style USA flag tie I can as part of your journalistic uniform?

Listen. You have 48hrs to decide whether you can afford to throw in the yo-yo and hammock or not. Could be a deal-breaker!

What if I am a professional games magazine writer from Germany who has access to the Gamescom (privately, not for the magazine)?

    #42 6 years ago
  43. lk

wz, from what I can tell, they are looking for someone to cover news while they are ON the show floor, and I guess to write the news fresh while the liveblog is happening.

  44. Johnny Cullen

“wz, from what I can tell, they are looking for someone to cover news while they are ON the show floor, and I guess to write the news fresh while the liveblog is happening.”

That sounds about right. Someone must be going, Pat or Mike as Steph’s been to GDC and Nathan’s been to E3.

If I was a betting man:

    Mike for GC
Pat (maybe) for Tokyo Games Show

    Amirite?

Bah. Missed this (it was posted on the day I bashed my head getting into a car and gave myself concussion). Is the spot still available?

    #47 6 years ago
  48. Psychotext

Would you hire a man who is incapable of even getting into a car without dashing his brains out? :D

    #48 6 years ago
  49. Patrick Garratt

Yep, Canton. Drop me a mail. I’m going to sort this out very soon.
