Team 17 says Sony is clever for “embracing digital distribution”
Team 17 says that Sony is clever for its embracing of digital distribution with PSP Go!, and feels that UMD just never really took off.
Speaking with Develop, Martyn Brown commended Sony’s new handheld and feels that the company has made a wise choice with how game are played on it.
“I think it’s fair to say that the UMD as a media format never really got going,” said the studio head. “I think it’s clever for Sony to embrace digital distribution.
“I’m sure we’ll be supporting the new PSP with engaging digital titles in the future.”

They made that game as work-for-hire.
If you want to judge them, look at their own IP and in particular look how they’ve made a great success out of digital distribution.

The term “EPIC-FAIL” is overused and abused, but it completely applies to the entire UMD concept.

@Suikdoden Fan – When a developer does a work-for-hire project they don’t always have much (or any) control over the content\design. The only way to make a judgement is how close it was to what the publisher asked for.
Ironically my old company once ported a Team 17 game to Gamecube (Worms Blast). There’s no way we would have expected any credit\blame for that game beyond the quality of the conversion.

knowing the chaps at T17 VERY well, I know for the fact, that it is exactly as John has said.
NO creative control was given to them, and that is all I’m saying about it.
They finished the game LAST YEAR so it is very much in their past now.
