E3 2009 – Sony press conference liveblog!

Gimme some damn release dates. Even if you tell me Heavy Rain is coming Spring 2010, I’ll feel better about a release window. Tell me White Knight Chronicles is on it’s way to Europe and N/A. Tell me Yakuza 3 is on the horizon. Tell me something.

The Sony waggle thing looked more like what I was expecting from the Wii.

E3 isn’t over yet… There’s still plenty of time to talk to the press about dates and other releases…

I think they pretty much tied on games. Microsoft won out on the ‘wow’ factor, despite me finding it about as interesting as… the Wii!

I dont really think that Micro came out with something HUGE… Natal was cool..but what else? Raiden just showed pics… and what..HALO games ??

Well, there were two games at the Microsoft conference that I really liked the look of, and two at the Sony conference that I really liked the look of. Draw! See?

what were they?

Microsoft announced Halo ODST coming in September, Forza 3 in October, Splinter Cell Conviction and Left 4 Dead 2 in November and Alan Wake in Spring 2010 and Mass Effect announce by EA as early 2010 as well as Crackdown 2 and Halo: Reach which may have impressive showings next E3. The games showed impressed. They demoed Modern Warfare 2 and FFXIII running on XBox 360 hardware and Natal had a very impressive showing and may be the most exciting thing coming out of E3. They also landed a Metal Gear Solid game developed by Kojima Productions. Anyone who think Sony had a more impressive showing is a fanboy. I got nothing. Not even a release date for Uncharted 2.

Alan Wake and Crackdown 2 versus Last Guardian and God of War 3. I would’ve included Final Fantasy XIII, but that was at both so they cancel each other out. Tentative interest in a couple of others from both conferences too, so all in all they both did about the same for me.

Sony’s first-party stuff seemed more comprehensive than Microsoft’s, though. I expected more non-Halo first-party titles from MS.

What is the rest of the lineup for the year? Another Ratchet and Clank ( . . . a franchise that needs to be put to rest) and Uncharted 2 which didn’t even get a release timetable.

Heavy Rain is coming out 09 as well.

Are you sure about that? I thought they’d already said it was a 2010 release. Regardless, Cage can’t get anything done on time – we’ll probably be lucky to see it before 2011.

Heavy Rain is not coming out this year. You and I both know this. It wasn’t even at the conference even though it’s playable at E3. They said on G4TV it’s coming 2010.

Im watching G4 right now and its on…lets see what he says.

MAG isn’t coming this year either and if it is, it’s lackluster. The Agency hasn’t been shown in ages. Come on man, we didn’t even see Yakuza 3. What the hell is up with that?!

Dont forget that unlike MS, Sony actually had games announced for 2009-10 way before E3 started, in the end its more about spacing, Sonys given out info over time, MS in pretty much one day, obviously the day after that day seems more impressive then whats came over 2-3 months.

Could any of you give me an idea of what definitively is coming in 2009 for the Playstation 3? Seriously? The dick tease Sony does every year is pissing me off.

Well, hugely disappointed with their investment in a gimmicky controller. Tied into Eyetoy = expensive peripheral just to even get started with. Demo was cute but, really, novelty controllers can GTFO.

Happy with some of the unexpected announcements – Agent and FFXIV came out of nowhere. Disappointed that the latter is MMO as that does nothing for me. Maybe if it’s a truly decent MMO that’s truly free to play then I might try it.

Glad to FINALLY get a credible source of Trico/The Last Guardian information. I can start investing interest in it now. I liked the different shader used on the boy.

God of War 3 disappointed to be honest. VERY drab looking and seriously needs some of that epic God of War theme music to keep the momentum going. I’ll still adore it when it hits.

That DIY Racer could be interesting. Reminds me of Trackmania to be honest but then that’s not the worst thing in the world to be compared to.

If Sony are serious about taking “Play Create Share” in different directions then sign me up for a snowboarding effort right here, right now.

Well IMO, over the next few days most, if not all of the independent gaming press are going to say that MS had the better conference, because of Natal and the Metal Gear deal.

Natal is something that the other two can’t really match (especially the XBL integration and facial recognition, etc) and the Metal Gear deal is a massive coup that brings the 360 a long, long way from where almost everyone had predicted it would be just a few years ago.

I really liked some of the Sony stuff, especially the car thingy, but I just think that more people will be wowed with what MS brought.

Indeed the games Sony showed appeal more to me then what MS had, for the most part they’re sequels to games i didnt like (Left 4 [Content lacking], Snooze Down…).

I don’t even care about all the motion control stuff. Where are the release dates. GT5 – next year, GoW3 – next year, Heavy Rain – next year, MAG – next year (They didn’t even announce a beta), Last Guardian – Lord knows, Agent – Don’t even know or care what it is at this point, Yakuza 3 – no show, White Knight Chronicles – no show. What the hell, should have called it the Sony PSP Go conference.

Gig.. Natal was definately cool but was pretty much matched with the motion sensing. Not even the wii mote has that accurate of movement.

And the MGS Raiden wasnt even shown. Just picks. Its like getting all crazy about the Rockstar game with no real idea what its about.

you really think sony won’t implement the few extra things natal can do by next year. are you people stupid. that tech is old. face detection. Kuturagi said the ps3 could have that in the ps3 from day one. give me a break people.

don’t get me wrong its cool and looks bad ass but all these M$ PR sites will call it the second coming for no reason and then they will say sony copied next year.

if it isn’t tactical espionage action then i don’t care. If i don’t play as snake or big boss its not metal gear to me.

On a side not did anyone see Demons Souls? Its meant to be coming to the US yet i didnt notice it in the trailers showing all the coming games.

in whole i was disappointed because they didn’t say anything about firmware updates.
