Edge two is the “this is actually a big shit” realm.
We have no idea which edge we’re looking at. It’ll cost 800 Wii Points. Press release after the break.

Microsoft developing 300,000-player online console game

A Microsoft job posting has apparently revealed the development of a console game that can support up to 300,000 people simulateously.
The ad, helpfully not linked to by Develop, has called for “an experienced server developer to help develop our server architecture. We are building an extremely high performance system to extend console games to the server in new ways; creating a completely new set of web services to support dynamic programming information of games and scheduling data”.
Requirements for the role include “building a backend capable of hosting a 300,000 player game in real-time with real money on the line (anti-cheating, etc),” the posting says.

EA to sell Tiger Woods “online for console downloads”

SAI is reporting what could be a major shift in the way EA plans to operate in the next five years, saying it will start selling Tiger Woods “online for console downloads” this autumn.
Quoting a Wall Street Journal report:
DFC Intelligence estimates that revenue from downloaded or online games in the U.S. will nearly triple to $7.9 billion in 2013 from $2.9 billion in 2008. Sales of games for consoles, by contrast, are expected to increase by just 28% over the same period — though at a projected total of $24.3 billion.
It’s unclear whether or not Tiger Woods will be available on disc or will go download-only, but SAI describes the move as a “huge risk”.
Expect more details from E3 on Monday.
