David Cage says there’s not going to be an Indigo Prophecy 2

indigoprophecy

David Cage has said in an interview that there is zero chance there will be an Indigo Prophecy sequel because he is finished with the characters and story.

“After Indigo, I wanted to work on something different because I thought [a sequel] would be a commercial disaster,” said Cage to 1UP. “It was really different from what the industry was doing and there was absolutely no hype about emotion or narrative. But when we started talking to publishers, many of them told us they loved Indigo and they were interested in publishing the sequel.

“So I started thinking of Indigo 2 but I quickly realized I had nothing more to say on this story and these characters. I really enjoyed the time I spent with them, but they were attached to a moment in my life, and I had moved on.

“I wanted to write something more personal, deeper, more adult, with no world to save and no supernatural powers.”

This was pulled from the same interview where Cage talked about not wanting to do a game set in  France.

Japanese 7-Eleven claims Kojima’s teaser is a new Metal Gear

kojimathing1

The teaser site over at Kojima Productions is scheduled to reveal what is in store for us later this evening, but that has not stopped a Japanese 7-Eleven e-Commerce database from claiming it’s a Metal Gear game.

Its listing mentions upcoming issues of trade magazines offering coverage of the MGS games, specifically pointing out Famitsu PSP+PS3.

Other than implying that the game is Sony only, the listing also mentions that the magazines are slated to hit retail on May 30.

Over on the Kojima site, there’s just over six hours left before another bit of tease is added, or we get a full reveal.

Maybe it will at least shed light on the “5″ that pops up with the lightening. Or it could be an “S”.

We don’t know, really. But it’s killing us.

Thanks, IGN.

The Queen gets a golden Wii courtesy of THQ

goldenwii

A gold-plated Wii was delivered to Buckingham Palace today, especially for Her Royal Highness.

Finished in gold, the console was commissioned for the Royal Family to mark the launch of BIG Family Games from THQ.

“BIG Family Games is the ultimate Wii game to get all family members, from grandparents to young children, playing together,” said Danielle Robinson, Product Manager at THQ. “The Royal Family is arguably the most important family in the country so we felt that they had to have a copy of the new game.

“But we thought that Her Majesty the Queen wouldn’t want to play on any old console, so an extra-special gold one was commissioned. We hope that she and the rest of the Royal Family enjoy the game!”

At least it will match the ceilings and possibly the drapes.

gamestop

GameStop has reported record earnings during Q1 of 2009, ending May 2.

Sales increased 9.2 percent to $1.98 billion, while net earnings rose 13.4 percent to $70.4 million.

The company claims the robust sales of DSi, Resident Evil 5, and Street Fighter IV along with used games sales being up 31.9 percent contributed to the overall figures.

Despite the nice numbers, the sale of new games dropped 2.8 percent and the company expects to see a decline for store sales ranging from 8 to 11 percent due to sluggish hardware sales.

Spaceballs and Jackass: The Movie were an inspiration for No More Heroes

spaceballs

Goichi Suda told attendees at the Nordic Game Conference that many different films and actors inspired Grasshopper Manufature’s No More Heroes – most notably Dirty Harry, Jackass: The Movie, and Spaceballs.

During Suda’s presentation titled “The Birth of No More Heroes”, he showed films clips from  movies that prompted the ideas prevalent in the game.

Some of the antics in the Jackass movie provided the background and design for the game character Travis Touchdown, mainly Johnny Knoxville being beaten up by Butterbean and getting bitten on the nipple by a baby alligator.

Spaceballs was the inspiration for the beam katana, the city of Santa Destroy was based on the depiction of San Diego in Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry (actual setting was San Francisco), and the hotel in Memento was the inspiration for the hotel in the game.

Travis Touchdown was modeled not only after Knoxville, but UFC/Pride champ Josh Barnett who was also the basis for Destroyman. A bit of Scarlett Johansson can be seen in Sylvia , Henry can lay claim to bits of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, Dr. Peace got his characteristics from Charles Bronson, and Thunder Ryu was Japanese pro wrestler Genichiro Tenryu.

Loads more is through the link.

Thanks, 1UP.

Mills: I’d appear in game where Sun journos were shocked at the “privates”

heathermills2

This was never going to be pretty. Following a Sun story this afternoon that claimed Paul McCartney ex Heather Mills demanded a “six-figure sum” to appear in Capcom’s Bionic Commando, the amputee model has said she’d like to appear in a game in which journalists from the paper were shocked at the genitals from a lie detector.

“I know one game I’d happily appear in and I’d do it for free,” she said on her Twitter account.

“Connect Sun journalists to a lie detector machine which triggers an electric current attached to their privates.

“If they tell the truth they’d get a good boy drop. But if they tell a porkie pie… it’d give them a short sharp shock to the privates.”

Mills went on to say the Sun’s journalists would likely have fun at the treatment.

“They’d probably enjoy it and not only would we all be able to tell Sun fact from fiction,” she said. “One day’s power surge from their uncontrollable bullshit would generate enough power to light up England each and every week.

“Now that’s what I call alternative energy.”

The Sun’s original story said Mills had turned down involvement in the game after Capcom refused to pay a significant sum of money.

Mills reacted, saying the money was to be a charitable donation.

Capcom declined to comment on the matter this afternoon.

Paul McCartney’s ex demanded “six-figure sum” to appear in Bionic Commando [Update]

heathermills

Update: Capcom just mailed this over: “We will not be commenting on the matter.”

Update 2: Mills has apparently confirmed the truth of the story on her Twitter, saying the large sum was to be for a charitable donation.

The ex-model lambasted Capcom as “stingy” in the process. Here are the tweets:

Got offered to promote an amputee bionic computer game, from a wealthy computer games company I said if you donate a large sum to charity

The stingy company came back saying they couldn’t, what happened to charitable businesses, seems they just want to exploit and give nothing

Update 3: Mills has responded, saying she’d appear for free in a game in which Sun journalists were attached to a lie detector by their genitals.

Original story:

This is awesome. The Sun’s claiming that Heather Mills, Paul McCartney’s one-legged ex, demanded a “six-figure sum” to appear in Bionic Commando, and wanted the game to revolve around a character based on her.

Capcom approached her about the game “because of her charity work with amputees,” according to that piece.

Said a source: “She was insistent she wouldn’t do it for a smaller fee and said the producers should make her the star.

“The request was way, way over budget and they certainly weren’t keen on basing the game on her.”

Just mailed Capcom. In between bouts of choking.
