FUEL is officially the “biggest console game of all time”

fuela3

Guinness World Records has recognised Codemasters racer FUEL as having the largest playable environment of any game.

The open-world racer packs 5,560 of US terrain. Apparently, this is the approximate area of Trinidad & Tobago, and larger than Hong Kong, Singapore, St Lucia and the Isle of Man put together. Fancy.

“We knew FUEL was going to be big,” said producer Phil Wright, “but to have this confirmed officially by Guinness World Records justifies our faith in this ground-breaking title.”

Press release after the break. It’s out on June 5.

fuela21

Codemasters has confirmed to VG247 that the 360 and PS3 versions of open-world racer FUEL have been delayed to June 5, a little slip of a week.

The PC version? It’s coming, we’re assured. There’s no solid date on it as yet, but it’s “to follow” in the very near future. We’re talking weeks.

Cage: Heavy Rain is “difficult to understand”

heavyraina8

Can your weak, feeble mind cope with the insane conundrum that is Heavy Rain? Don’t worry. Your confusion’s “normal”.

“It’s difficult to understand,” Quantic Dream’s David Cage told Eurogamer.

“Don’t worry, that’s normal, but the more scenes we show, probably the more lost you’ll be.

“We’ll show you things that are really, really different from what you’ve just seen. And that’s going to be a pleasure.”

A veritable fuck-load of new gameplay footage and screens of the PS3 thriller were released this morning, a media deluge so baffling it caused our brains to shut down. Even more so than normal.

It’s out later this year.

“No plan” for No More Heroes on other consoles

nomoreheroesa2

Don’t own a Wii? Want to play No More Heroes? Tough. Suda51′s told 1UP there are no plans to do so. “Yet”.

“Actually, a lot of the fans were dying to play the game on other consoles, so I think it’d be great if I could do it, but there’s no plan yet,” said Suda.

“[If so,] I would match the content to [fit] the other consoles. No More Heroes could be a big title, like a big IP, so it’d be good to have a chance to release the game on other consoles, and that would maybe maximize the market.”

There’s a full interview through there. Via Develop and Kotaku.

Kojima teaser site reveals another countdown

kojimathing2

The Kojima teaser site finally switched around a bit, and after waiting around for the update, we were presented with yet another teaser.

The clock was reset, and now along with the flashing “S” or “5″ there are the  new letters and numbers “E”, “3″, and either a “q” or backwards “g”, possibly a “9″ or something else entirely.

We have no idea at this point.

All we know is that it’s a countdown to a countdown of sorts. Wait til E3 basically.

Go see for yourself.

Thanks for the company, Michael.

Iwata talks Nintendo price cuts and upcoming titles

iwataa2

The Nintendo investor briefing that was held on March 8 is now translated and up for your reading pleasure.

In it, Satoru Iwata suggests that he is not adverse to DS or Wii price drops at all – just that it would have to be a global thing.

“I have never said that cutting the suggested retail price is not in the cards. However, price cuts in one country can certainly affect other countries,” he said. “For example, when you say that we should cut the price in Japan due to the current domestic market situation, once the suggested retail price is cut in Japan, people outside Japan will anticipate the same around the world.

“While the price cut is said to surely increase demand, it must be clear from a variety of analysis so far that the effect cannot last very long. Accordingly, if we really do enact a price cut, it must be exactly when it can maximize the business.

“At least for now, I have no specific ideas about the price cut at all.”

Iwata also talks possible pricing strategies, the used game market, and teases titles to be released later in the year.

“The reason why I said today that April, May and June sales of Wii will not reach last year’s results but that the situation will change from the summer of this year was because the company has been preparing for several titles to be launched toward the end of this year that can drive the market.”

Can’t wait.
