UFC fighter cut from game for “clipping and collision detection” issues

thecarpenter1

Looks as though popular lightweight fighter Clay ‘The Carpenter’ Guida’s absence from UFC 2009 Undisputed was because of his long hair.

During development, the hair on his character caused clipping and collision detection issues making him unplayable, so he was taken out of it.

According to 5th Round, THQ supposedly offered Guida money to cut his hair so he could be kept in-game, but he refused.

Bit strange, that.

Clipping issues were also an issue with left-handed fighters like Rich Franklin, and instead of the developers asking the fighter to switch styles, they were just given a right-hand stance in the game.

Thanks, GameSetWatch.

Didn’t UFC fire some folks over refusing to sign contracts allowing THQ ownership of their image?

Seems to be clipping issues all over the place in the demo. Maybe wait for the next version.

Couldn’t they have… like… cut his hair, or something?

They could of I guess, or just did a work around or even just make the game properly instead of trying to mess about with the UFC folks.

Yes, Jon Finch refused to sign the contract for the game. The contract said that THQ could use each fighters image ‘forever’. Finch said no. Dana White said, ‘okay, Jon, goodbye’. Finch replied a week later ‘umm…i change my mind. can i come home now?’.
