I don't really mind the gameplay tweaks in Oblivion to be honest.

I didn't like world levelling really, that's very true.

But otuside of that it was ALL visual design that I hated. From lore Cyrodiil is a jungle, almost impenetrable. Not a European forest.

The Imperial City is a MASSIVE city, with many different islands, canals and gondolas. It's a lot like Venice.

And for cities like Cheydinhal, well they were ridiculously represented.

As was the beastiary. And as was the watered down culture.

No_pudding - You really love Morrowind, and for that i commend you, it was an amazing game, as was the games before it.
oblivion had its faults, i wasnt a fan of the world leveling along with you, but it was easier for newbies to the series to get into.
I also wished that they woulnt have made every quest all voice, some text would have been nice, and to make the game
a bit more like morrowind with the unending amount of quests.
I had quite a few friends that tried morrowind but couldnt get into it. As was stated above, it was too serious an RPG for them, and I could understand that.
Oblivion could have been better in alot of ways, but im confident that bethesda will improve rather than degrade the series as you seem to be afraid of.

The stuff happening in TeS3 really wasn't that relative at all. the Oblivion Crisis was of it's own nature.

Ald'ruhn was destroyed by it however. And the departure of the Nerevarine to Akavir, is partly to blame.

But Akavir is like untouched snow. And Bethesda of these days will amke it yellow.

Who's there, I know there's the serpents men, those are what are conventionally called the Akviri. But theres like snow yetis and stuff isn't there? I can't remember

I loved MW a lot, I think I read through the bigger part of all the books in that game. Too bad Oblivion was such a let-down, lore wise. (Was there even explained, in the game, how the stuff happening in TES3 spawned the events of TES4? I don't think so.)

I still think it could be Akavir. An island with four distinct cultures. The size of Vvardenfell, all carefully designed. No vast empty spaces. Lots of never seen before lore about the whole Akaviri culture and the early times of men and mer. Not happening.

They aren't capable of doing stuff in Tamriel. Please don't give them creative freedom in Akavir, thats such a potentially awesome place. And much cooler as an 'off-stage' setting.

And there are tons of unexplored 'assumed' Empires on Nirn.

Atmora, where the original Imperial/Nords came from.

Yokuda, where the Redguard came from. And is now inhabited by sload.

Pyandonea, where the yellow elves came from, or the maomer.

Akavir is just the most popular in the previus two TES games, becuase both played a huge role in alliance between Akviri and the Imperials.

Damn... I LOVE this game.

Ill tell you how. The stars were right for them and lots of it, is their own doing.

Very early in all the consoles life cycles, they port a game from PC, that's depth cannot be compared to anything developed on the console exclsuively.

It's a very scalable engine, with a TON of scalable middlewares.

It's massive, and the only RPG out on the consoles, with the most innnoffensive and dull, fantasy
settings ever.

Word spreads, and there we have Oblivions success.

In the HD generation, people realise making a massive RPG is fucking difficult. HD assets or current gen quality assets make things much more difficult to do on a large scale.

Suddenly Bethesda is the only developer invested in doing that.

Now people are starting to recognise the Bethesda name.

Yeah, I'm not sure how but Bethesda have tapped the ultra hardcore and casual markets in just the right way. I have no idea how they manage to get the sales figures they do with a high fantasty RPG and a virtually unknown to the masses post-nuclear war rpg.

Ironic, coming from Bethesda.

Maybe they will chnage their ways too now they ARE in the spotlight, of the hardcore market.

If so, I don't mind Oblivion being shit, for that.

To be honest, I want to send out a giant hug, kiss and ass grope to Bethesda for picking up projects with Splash Damage and Obsidian. Both utterly class developers that love their fans and make games unashamedly for them instead of the mass market.

I really enjoyed Fallout 3, despite it's obvious presentation flaws and utter disregard for Fallout canon. Seems like Bethesda do all the really hard stuff and just bodge the basics.

El Muerko, I think it's completely fine.

Bethesda just don't want to do the animation. Budget and tiem constraints etc.

Fallout 3 was smallera dn more linear than Oblivion. Definitely no problems at all.

Well, back then I was like 16 and I had those IBM drives that became infamous for eating themselves. We did try like hell to get something back, but it was a lost cause.

Had failes since and I've managed to recover the data from them, but this one was utter cunting epic.

Epic whoops, I had a 50 hours Baldur's Gate 2 and 60 hour Planescape: Torment saves on there too, both a stones throw from the final bosses. That was certainly a bad day to quit anabolic steroids.

Had a hard drive failure too. But people like you to think that stuff is more difficult (or impossible) to reclaim than it is.

A friend of mine works with these people who help forensic investigators get data from hard drives that have been smashed, burned or failed. I ahve a whole spare computer on an 80gb external Harddrive now. With my Morrowind saves.

Oh man, and when that Bosmer falls from the sky near Seyda Neen.

I LOVED the scrolls you took from his corpse.

Most epic find I ever had though, was I entered a boring lookign Ancestral Tomb, and there was a lock at the bottom. I had comissioned a ring with the spell open lock of 100 on touch.

And the lock was 99! Anyway, I went down about 10 flights of slopes (as they don't use stairs), to find another 99 lock. Used my rign again, and foudn a MASSIVE open cavern, and steps leadign down to the water, where it becomes a maze.

So again, using my initiative, I had found a levitate ring.. I used that and discovered it was the Burial ground for some guy. There was a Daedric Helm (SOO rare and not levelled) and tons of gems and gold, and another artifact I can't remember.

I was amazed. I thnk I am gonna go play it now.

Pudding is right. Nothing like going over every corner of the map to see what you can find. It's fulfilling really.

With Obilivion,I have logged in 600 or so hours, maybe. Too afraid to look.

Morrowind? I logged 750 hours last time I checked, and still have not completed the entire thing. I had to stop. Seriously, I did.

Still, once in a while, I hear it calling my name through the aether...
