WiiWare turns one, celebrates with Crystal Defenders R2
WiiWare has turned one, and to celebrate the milestone, two titles were been added to the service.
Crystal Defenders R2, a game where you use Fencers and Black Mages to stop waves of encroaching monsters from escaping the area with your party's crystals, will run you 800 Wii Points.
Penguin & Friends, which also costs 800 Wii Points, allows you to become the fishing king by feeding hungry penguins.
DSiWare also got a update by way of Art Style: PiCOPiCT (500 points) and Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity (800 points).

22nd May 2009 – This week WiiWare is celebrating its first birthday with the arrival of two new titles: CRYSTAL DEFENDERS™ R2 and Penguins & Friends.
These two titles bring the total number of WiiWare games in Europe to 67! Some of the most popular games on WiiWare currently include: World of Goo, LostWinds, TV Show King, Mega Man 9, My Aquarium and Tetris Party, to name a few. With plenty more hits on the way, including Icarian: Kindred Spirits, Bonsai Barber, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years and Cave Story, there really is no excuse not to keep visiting the Wii Shop Channel each week.
Coupled with the excitement on WiiWare, this week also brings two more games to Nintendo DSiWare: PiCOPiCT – a new addition to the growing Art Style series of unique, original titles, and the wannabe Pop Star’s dream, Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity.
WiiWARE - CRYSTAL DEFENDERS™ R2 (SQUARE ENIX, 800 Wii Points):
In CRYSTAL DEFENDERS R2, you must deploy various units such as Fencers and Black Mages to stop waves of encroaching monsters from escaping the area with your party's crystals.
There are many types of units to choose from, some specialising in powerful short-range attacks, some wielding far-reaching magicks, and still others equipped with bows, enabling them to bring down aerial foes. Deploy units in strategic locations to take full advantage of their traits.
Each time an enemy breaches your defences and reaches a map's exit, your party will lose crystals. When all your crystals are gone, the game is over.
R2 offers several new, challenging maps containing multiple entrances and exits. It also introduces three varieties of Power Crystals, allowing you to enhance the abilities of your units, while new jobs, including Flintlock and Tinker, set the stage for even more complex strategies. Can you defend all the maps without losing a single crystal?
WiiWARE - PENGUINS & FRIENDS: HEY! THAT’S MY FISH! (Gammick Entertainment, 800 Wii Points):
You can become the fishing king! The penguins are hungry and need your help to feed themselves. Catch all the fish you can before someone steals them from you!
Strategy is fundamental in this exciting game. Keep moving ahead of the other penguins so that you don’t get trapped and try to get to the ice flows that hold more fish. Between 1 and 4 players can play ‘Penguins & Friends’ at the same time – providing they can handle the polar cold.
The board is made up of ice blocks that have a set number of fish (1, 2 or 3) under them. The ice blocks are hexagonal and form a structure like a beehive. The starting position of the ice blocks can change, creating different game boards.
NINTENDO DSiWARE - ART STYLE: PiCOPiCT (NINTENDO, 500 DSi Points):
The Art Style series brings you unique, simple-to-play games with striking visuals and immersive sound.
In PiCOPiCT, puzzle your way through a colourful, retro-themed game with charming NES-era graphics and sounds. Build up pixel pictures of classic Nintendo characters on the top screen by clearing the blocks that fall onto the Touch Screen. Just use the stylus to place blocks of a matching colour in the path of the falling blocks.
Earn coins as you play, to unlock new classic Nintendo character-themed stages (including Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and more) and remixed music arranged by renowned Japanese 'chiptune' band YMCK.

You can also customise your character's name and appearance – developing your character’s skills and personality throughout all four musical mini-games: Guitar, Singing, Drums, and Dance. Play against your friends, recording your voices, taking photos and signing autographs!
