id Software has launched its “6 new maps in 6 weeks” campaign, meaning we get a new Quake Live map every Monday for the next six weeks, Eurogamer reports.

DreamCast classic Hidden Fortress is up fist and will be followed by what the company promises will be both new and classic maps for the rather superb multiplayer shooter.

I played Quake Live for the first time this weekend. It’s fucking incredible. I’m not even lying.

It really is visually scrumptious, and considering that it’s running inside the browser, that’s absolutely bloody amazing. Quake Live looks as good as a lot of commercial games today, not to mention that it’s a remake of probably the most seminal arena FPS experience out there. As much as I love TF2 and UT3, when it comes to this kind of gameplay, Quake III does it better.

The only thing I miss is the Werewolf models I used to use in the original Quake III. I would love Id forever if they’d allow for custom models, even if they were only locally viewable.

Anyway, this is something that everyone should have a go at, it’s quite brill, and it’s egg on the face for those that reckon free gaming experiences are worthless. Yet another example thereof, of many. I bet anyone who’d say a free gaming experience isn’t worthwhile is feeling really foolish now. <.<
