mike, don't listen to them! it's an awesome mp game in vs. not so much in coop. but if u like mp u should definetly give it go. but u should do that with friends and don't expect to win too many from the start. there r dedicated teams (like mine for example) who r eating newbies for breakfast, or shoving them off, depends on what r we playing. i like nearly all aspects of mp tbh. it's one of the best games i've played in years and if it had only 1 mp map, no mercy for example, i would love it just as much. though "map" is not exactly the correct word, "chapter" is. so if u think about ppl bitching about how it has only 4 maps, it actually has 4 chapters, which means 20 maps. 1st grade math.. yeah. i know. it's very very hard for some.. for the future, less qq more pew pew pls! cheers!

The random enemy spawns make the campaigns worthwhile in the long run, especially on Expert. Of course, that doesn't mean Valve has provided all the variation they could. There are loads of static variables which could be juggled around with to make for a more replayable game.

TF2 to someone who just wants to get into the base maps and gameplay is now extinct.

That's the fate of any PC FPS although if you got the right servers bookmarked then this shouldn't be much of a problem. TF2 isn't SoF2 for example, the base game is too good for that and there really are enough 'vanilla' servers out there.

It won't be such an issue for L4D anyway since most of the matchmaking happens through the lobby so there will always be an option to prefer the vanilla version/maps.

For the campaign the only tatics in the game are shoot at stuff together to kill it faster and stick together, the rest is just run'n'gun till you reach the safe room. Seeing as every character is exactly the same and the levels so linear theres not much room for anything else.
Playing as an infected is more interesting though and i can see some tatics being more useful in that mode, its just a shame the respawn times are so lengthy and that you're forced to go back to playing as the boring human team 1/2 rounds.

Right. Surely the depth is the tactics in multiplayer? Isn't the game designed for it?

Depends on what you're expecting, i went in looking for a deep zombie apocalypse simulation type game and instead found a repetitive arcade shooter that felt rushed and unfinished.

Well you better get it on PC then so you can finish making the game, with only 4 maps and 5 types of weapon Valve obviously werent bothered.

So now it can end up like the rest of the valve online catalogue. A bunch of terrible 3rd party maps and annoying server mods.

TF2 to someone who just wants to get into the base maps and gameplay is now extinct.
