Pachter: MotionPlus could sell 10 million in 2009

Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter has told Edge that he thinks MotionPlus could sell as many as 10 million units this year.

“I think around 20 percent of Wii owners in the US and Europe will have bought Wii Sports Resort, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 or EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis,” which will come bundled with the Wii Remote add-on, “so that’s around eight million,” he said.

“I think another two million will buy MotionPlus with new consoles.

“I expect MotionPlus to be a sneaky success (like Wii Fit), and ultimately attach to at least one third of the [Wii's] installed base,” he added.

MotionPlus releases in June. Full thing through there.

I came hom from a geeky night of table hockey only to find the GF and her friends playing Wii Sports. The GH guitars (That she bought) were out to.

What I’m saying is that I’ll definitely buy a copy of Wii Sports Resort as I know it will be played a lot. I just hate the fact that I’ll have to buy a second bloody add on for the other controller. Maybe I’ll get it bundeled with TW.

Or it won’t sell 10 million… I’m not sure if all that many consumers or ‘casual’ players will see the difference it makes to games. I think they like the simple waggle controls of the current wiimote and adding more sensitivity could be seen as making the console a little more ‘core’ as better precision will be required. Not sure many of the expanded market will have the motor skills to control with higher fidelity. Maybe I’m wrong. Prove me wrong Patch. Do it! Lets see your 10 million MotionPlus sales and then I’ll eat my Michael Patcher endorsed baseball cap…
