Microsoft shoots down PS3 Lost and Damned rumors

Microsoft says that The Lost and Damned is not headed to PS3.

Responding to rumors that surfaced over the weekend from a PSW article, Gamespot contacted Microsoft for comment and were bluntly told by a rep that “the [GTA IV] episodes are exclusive to Xbox 360.”

Sony and Take-Two both refuse to comment on the rumor, so read into Microsoft’s response however you like.

I’ve always said, DLC (downloadable content) is just that….”downloadable”. If that’s the deal Microsoft made with Rockstar, I don’t see why legally they can’t release the DLC content on disc for sale on PS3 thereby bypassing the exclusive deal completely…

…it’s kind of a sneaky technicallity, but in todays gaming industry with cut throat competition when it comes to exlusive rights, WHY NOT?

ROCKSTAR RELEASE LOST AND DAMNED ON DISC FOR PS3 USERS. WE’RE HAPPY, WE BUY, YOU MAKE MONEY. YOU ALSO DON’T BREAK YOUR DCL CONTRACT AS SONY USERS ARE NOT DOWNLOADING ANYTHING.

    Thoughts?

@Dr.Ghettoblaster: Yeah… there’s no way the hundreds of highly paid vultures, sorry, lawyers on MS’s staff would have ever spotted something like that in the contract.

For what it’s worth, I still say it’ll hit the PS3 eventually.

@Psychotext….yeah you’re probably right. It just sucks man, PS3 users get the shaft on GTA4 and Fallout 3 DLC, two of the best games of this generation. Where’s the love? Regardless of the vehicle (console) any particular consumer uses to experience the game, it’s a real shame that the developers are essentially fuc$king half of us in the a$$.

Then i read that Squaresoft won’t release the PS3 FFXIII demo in America cause it wouldn’t be fair to the X360 owners who want to play the game.

Huh? Fair? Since when were things ever fair in this console generation…?

“It just sucks man, PS3 users get the shaft on GTA4 and Fallout 3 DLC, two of the best games of this generation.”

Much like 360 fans are getting the shaft with Ghostbusters. Both parties are just as guilty to be honest.

The only way to ensure you get a fair portion of the gaming pie is simply to own both consoles. If someone can afford a PS3, they can easily afford a 360.

GTAIV was an “okay” game at best. Fallout 3 is another ugly RPG with terrible PS3 support. Why waste your time worrying about these games, people?

“You’re whole argument goes down the toilet is Ghettoblaster is American Michael.”

    Apologies. Let me rephrase it.

“Much like 360 fans IN EUROPE are getting the shaft with Ghostbusters. Both parties are just as guilty to be honest.”

That’s at least 8 – 10 million people right there. More than will ever download even the most popular DLC, mind you.

It’s just funny it doesn’t have the “Only On 360″ stamp on the points card.

If it’s *that* exclusive it should…

    #12 5 years ago
  13. Psychotext

@Razor: That stamp doesn’t mean any more than 12 months exclusivity anyway.

what? what happened with Ghostbusters in Europe?

@Michael O’Connor: I totally respect your post but have to disagree with your comment:
“The only way to ensure you get a fair portion of the gaming pie is simply to own both consoles. If someone can afford a PS3, they can easily afford a 360.”

I’ve got 2 kids and we’re still living in an apartment. I can’t easily afford a X360 right now. Nor do I think a gamer should HAVE to own TWO different consoles to get full value out of a game that’s multi-platform (ie. GTA4, Fallout3). I can totally understand a first party exclusive such as Halo, Killzone, Mario, etc, but if I buy Fallout 3, regardless of which system, I should be ENTITLED to the OPTION at minimum of being able to add-on the DLC that’s come out for the game on multiple other platforms (PC and 360). It’s shaddy business practice and it’s that simple. It CLEARLY shows the public that their company is more interested in filling their pockets rather than ALL customers experience with their game.

    Just my opinion.

OMG, whoever believes MS on this is just stupid. In fact, it was stupid to ask/listen to MS about this matter at all!

  17. JesteR

I still have this crazy idea that when you release a game for a platform that you have the obligation to release any DLC for it too. Only maingames should be exclusive not DLC.

  18. Whizzo

what? what happened with Ghostbusters in Europe?

Sony got the cheque book out and bought limited European exclusivity, 360 and Wii versions should be out in time for Christmas.

It’ll be interesting to see if the US/Asia 360 versions are region free.

That’s a really good point Alakratt, I didn’t even realize the source here was microsoft. lol We’ll wait for Rockstar/Sony/TakeTwo’s comments down the road.

Also couldn’t agree more with JesteR’s comment. Sorry for my previous lengthy ramblings. I’m all for DLC, I just think system exclusive DLC for multi-platform games is getting into ethical territory. You don’t want to release DLC for Fallout 3 on PS3, that’s fine, just don’t release the game on that system then cause it’s shaddy and el lame-O.

Whizzo, how do you know? Sony OWNS the Ghostbusters IP – how do you you know they didn’t exercise a contracted right to publish first?

    #20 5 years ago
  21. hitnrun

Because they didn’t say “we’re exercising our contracted right to publish first?”

Seriously, people need to give that theory a rest. I don’t want to call fanboy but every blog the last week has been filled with people suggesting that Sony wasn’t really buying exclusivity and was generously allowing the 360 to get the game at all, as if Dan Akroyd and his developer somehow forgot to buy the rights from Sony’s movie division before they started making a Ghostbusters game.

Their “contractual rights” only apply to Europe then? Yes that makes perfect sense and not complete and utter bollocks.

Gotta go with Bleak Harvest on this one.

None of the games Fallout 3, GTAIV or Ghostbusters are worth losing any sleep about. And especially not their DLC.

Fallout 3 seems to have been mroe trouble than good for DLC, and Lost an Damned just is not something I am at all interested in. As for Ghostbusters it’s coming at the end of the year, so no prbolems right?

Also, saying it’s exclsuive, is like Capcom taling about LP2… It doesn’t deny anything.

I don’t see what the big deal is, but at the end of the day it really does come down to personal taste.

If LittleBigPlanet had been released only on the 360, I’d have been screaming blue murder about it, probably.

It’s funny, as for the consoles… it can be a matter of stance and personal choice, too. I can afford an XBox 360, and I had one for a time, but I felt so dirty that I sold mine off. Live being one of the cancers of society and all that. I’m more than content with my gaming PC, PS3, and Wii. I’m always afraid I’ll catch something from Live, and being free from Live is far more grand a boon than whatever exclusives the 360 might have.

As for Fallout 3, I liked that game. But the DLC is not exclusive to the 360, it’s available for the PC as well. I’m going to be smug here, now, because there is something that’s exclusive about Fallout 3. Can anyone guess? That’s right, the modding capabilities, and all those beautiful mods! That’s exclusive fo the PC, that is!

There are some fantastic mods available for Fallout 3 already, and soon there will be mods that outshine even the official DLC. And htere will be mod-packs which improve the game so much that the original will look amazingly poor and shoddy by comparison. Evidence? Look up PoopMods for Oblivion and compare with/without. It’s incredible.

So the only thing that the non-360 owner loses out on is the Lost and the Damned. Not a big deal for me anyway, as I thought that Saints Row 2 was miles ahead of GTA IV in just about every conceivable respect. For me, GTA IV is like GTA III.2, and Saints Row 2 is the unofficial GTA IV. So I’m not terribly excited about this news.

But again, that’s all just subjective and opinion-based like, but so’s everything here.

I really do recommend Fallout 3 for the PC though, for those who were disenchnated with the console versions. The modding scene isn’t as advanced as Oblivion’s yet, but it will be… oh it will be, and I’ve brought around no end of console gamers (PS3 & 360) to the PC way just by showing ‘em the difference PoopMods a few other choice additions can make.

The Bethesda community can make a good game out of whatever pap Bethesda puts out. And that Fallout 3 is a decent enough game by itself bodes well for how much better a good modset could make it.

“None of the games Fallout 3, GTAIV or Ghostbusters are worth losing any sleep about. And especially not their DLC.”

Losing sleep over… no. But the DLC for Fallout 3 (other than Op Anchorage) has been great fun, and the GTAIV DLC is better than the main game.

I have heard it’s been difficult to play the Fallout 3 DLC’s, and I haven’t heard much from Lost and Damned. I am sure they are fun little extras. But I haven’t heard much fuss around them. Even in the NeoGAF thread theres not much fuss.

    #27 5 years ago
  28. Psychotext

You wont hear much on NeoGAF for obvious reasons. :)

The releases for the Fallout DLCs have been dodgy, but that didn’t really change what they were like to play.

  29. No_PUDding

You mean everything is written? Har Har Very funny xD

Fair enough, as I said, I think they are good, but I don’t feel like I am missing out on an experience I shouldn’t be. I’d like to try them if given the opportunity, ofcourse however.

Whizzo just give up. You make an ignorant guess about something and act like it’s a hard fact and when someone points out to you that as the fucking OWNER Sony might have every right to do what they have done you whine like a bitch.

As for hitnrun, you think it’s not possible because you haven’t been told? You think SCE’s directors believe you are entitled to know the minutae of their legal contracts? “Dan Ackroyd and his developer” don’t own the IP, only a licence to develop a game. Learn the difference.

“Because they didn’t say “we’re exercising our contracted right to publish first?””

They didn’t say “we wrote a big cheque to stop 360 owners getting the game for a few months” either but you don’t seem to have a problem with such claims.

Oh, and next time you watch a Ghostbusters multi-platform game trailer, do look out for the name of a well known Japanese electronics and entertainment company that appears at the end. Another version I’ve seen carries the “Colombia Pictures” brand. Guess who owns that?

    #30 5 years ago
  31. Whizzo

If Sony had a veto on what platforms the game could come out on why have they decided just to apply that to Europe then?

Also why would this suddenly be happening mere weeks before the games release?

You are a very silly person indeed.
