VG247 Reader Survey – help us help you and win a copy of FUEL!

We’ve just put a reader survey live, and it would be a huge help if you could take the time to fill it out.
There’s one short sheet of questions there: it’ll take a few minutes at the most.
Why do we need you to do this? It helps with marketing, basically, which means more writers, better content, more extensive tattoos and yachts in the Bahamas.
We’d like to say you’d be in with a chance of winning something if you do it, but that would be a lie. Unless you count respect as a prize, obviously.

Update – A Codemasters chap just got in touch. Apparently you don’t count respect as a prize, so he wants to offer three copies of FUEL to you lot in return for filling out the survey. Watch videos of it here. We’ve got no way of telling whether or not you’ve taken the survey as it’s completely anonymous, so do this instead:
- Take the survey (we trust you – just do it)
- Tell us in the comments below why you read VG247
- We’ll pick three of the best answers and Codemasters will send you the game (360-only) when it launches on May 29
That’s it. Good luck!

I read VG247 because it is nice to read something that isn’t just copied and pasted from its source. I get enough of that from Joystiq and Kotaku

There is such a massive navel-gazing discussion about gaming ‘journalism’ at the moment – and yet the vast majority of content on gaming news sites/magazines can hardly be considered serious journalistic reporting.
I like you guys because you seem to take old-fashioned approach to reporting and do it about something I happened to be interested in: the video game industry.

I read VG247 because the amount of Sony fanboys here is staggering, but still less than EG’s community, so it’s like watching inside an aquarium. Fast news and no censorship are another selling point

I read VG247 because of the British humour, the abundant and generally interesting brought news (which isn’t almost console-only, PC gamers still exist as well yes) and the fact you mostly try to contact the parties involved for reactions (which can lead to interesting follow-ups).
Not every newspost is flawless or well researched but that’s normal I think when you’re newsposting on the edge all the time and when the subject of games can be so wide. Try to get more uniformity in your tags as well if you can.

I read this site for gaming news, because it’s awesome.. These guys always put out the main news, the ones that count, y’know?
Not only that but they put in a little flavour of their own at times which I find can actually get the reader to read the whole article instead of little slices =)

I am fairly new to VG247. I have been using your site for approximately 2 weeks now and I finally rustled up the courage to register too.
There are several reasons for why I visit this site, some of which I am not proud of but mainly it’s just an unhealthy obsession. I have always been a Kotakuite and I still go there now and again, no other site has managed to pull me away from there. However, once reading VG247 I gained an appreciation for it.
a.) It gives me the news I want, when I want it. It may be just my vision but VG247 always seems to have the insider news before most other websites and that’s just plain awesome.
b.) It’s Britishy. It’s true, that word isn’t found in the OED but any site that has a lot of articles surrounding the gaming industry in Britain is a site worthy of coining a new word in my books.
c.) The design. I am a web designer and as shallow as it may sound I am often put off by websites with little care put into the design of them. VG247 has a nice minimalist design with little stylistic details that make it come to life. To everyone else it may just look like another website but to me it has that special touch.
I’m sure there’s other reasons for why I visit this website but I don’t want to sound too desperate about the whole deal with the game (Fuel). May the best banter wizard win.
P.S. Just completed the survey.

Gives me current information around the clock in an adult format, often before most sites are reporting the same information. Also gives me more industry news in a fashion that will impact my gaming.

I read VG247 because it offers Euro/UK-centric news, where most other news sites focus on the US. There is also a great community of both journalists and readers, and the interaction between them is much better than anywhere else.
I also like VG247 because there are the most comments on an article where commenting wins you prizes.

I like yer site Pat. It’s good. Lots of short-burst news and stuff I give a shit about. The EEDAR stuff baffles me – I hate sales prediction stories – but everything else is spot on.

I’ve not filled in the survey yet and don’t want Fuel, but figured I’d answer the question anyway.
What I mainly like about the site is that it updates all the time, and focuses on news (and rumours). I followed Kotaku for a while but there’s such a high amount of non-news content that it grew irritating just sifting through it all, and when EG (I think it was) announced this site was starting I stuck it in my RSS reader and it’s been much more to my tastes.
The design, humour and personality of the site all help, as do the often entertaining comment threads, but content is king.

I am now a Survey Monkey.
Anyways, I like VG247 because on most other sites that pretend to be equally reporting on the big three console makers, they are usually always biased towards one of them. Not so with VG247, you tend to be equally sarcastic towards all of the consoles. I applaud you!
Except from that I hope you will add a standard forum with admins, post counts etc. some time in the future. The community might be small and relatively behaved right now, but as the site becomes more popular, it will certainly get flooded by assholes.

Superfrog: assuming you’re going in knowing it’s a tranny site, I’d be interested in knowing what the surprise is.
But I see where you’re coming from – it’s gratifying to know that VG247 is there in my bookmarks sandwiched neatly between my two favourite, and no doubt highly illegal, horror porn sites.

OrphanageExplosion: Just to be clear on this – of course I do not have a Tranny Surprise bookmark (and I not keen to learn what exactly the surprise is).
That website has become a running gag on boards like GAF because once there was a guy who somewhere posted a screenshot of his browser window revealing an unintentionally opened Tranny Surprise tab next to the highlighted main tab.

Wow, great idea guys. Thanks for the chance.
I actually come to VG247, which was videogaming247.com before (love the shorter name), mainly because it gives me the news in gaming without all that extra stuff from n4g and other websites that seemed they are just concerned with hits.
Heck I didn’t even know this site was European until one of the writers mentioned games not coming out in their land on time with the US release.
The humor, straight facts, images associated with the news and blog updates, video feeds, comment updates, interviews and so much more is why I come here. It gives me what I’m looking for in gaming news. The contests aren’t even needed because this site is grounded into the idea of just reporting gaming news. To me that is really great journalism.
thank you VG247
and good luck to everyone.
